Odds of being hit by a piece of it 1 in 3200.
Seem kinda high to you?
Current odds in Vegas are 3150-1.
From the article...
"NASA officials have said the the chances that a piece of UARS debris hits and injures one of the nearly 7 billion people on the planet are about 1 in 3,200. However, the personal odds of you being struck by UARS satellite debris are actually about 1 in several trillion, NASA officials have said."
The 1 in 3,200 is not an individual risk. If it was, there would be a mass casualty event wherever it fell.
Hmmm, 300,000,000 people in the USA so does that mean (300,000,000 / 3200) 93,750 people are going to be hit?
(hint trick question)
Ah, your statement would mean 2 million people will get clobbered by this thing.
Now, if that could be focused on San Francisco and Manhattan, that may not be such a bad thing...
...but I think NASA meant that there's a 1/3200 chance that ANYONE on the planet gets clobbered by this falling satellite.
“Odds of being hit by a piece of it 1 in 3200.”
Really high - as in bad.
That's actually odds of one person out of 6+ billion being hit. Odds of YOU getting hit are more like 1 in 20 trillion (after doing some rough math).
The odds of me personally getting hit, or the odds of the United States getting hit? Because there's no way that there's 1 in 3200 odds in the US that I am going to get hit by that, unless they are expecting about 90,000 people to get hit by this thing.
I don’t believe they did not know where it was landing. I also wonder why they went to the astroid to study it rather than going to this equipment to blow it up.
They are just breaking eggs - too many humans stinking up their globe anyway. Human life is trash to them this administration. I want congressional hearings on this. The priorities here are up-side-down.
If those are the odds, then 10,000 people in America will likely be hit by pieces of it.
Yes, it does, especially as I have somewhere about a 1 in a 1,000,000,000 chance of winning the Publishing Clearing House Sweepststakes!
Any clue how they arrive at this odds number of 1 in 3200? Do they present the numbers?
