Perry’s collapse makes way for Christie and others?
WAPO ^ | 09/23/11 | Jennifer Rubin

Yesterday I wrote a vignette in jest suggesting what New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie might be yelling at his TV during the GOP debate. Unlike his alter-ego in my vignette, the real Bill Kristol did not call Christie to plead nor drive over to his house to urge him to get into the race. Instead he used his Web site , figuratively speaking, to run over Texas Gov. Rick Perry with an 18-wheeler and drive through Christie’s living room window:

With nine candidates on the stage, and answers restricted to one minute, it’s hard to really show your stuff. And two of the candidate — Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney — did provide respectable performances. But no front-runner in a presidential field has ever, we imagine, had as weak a showing as Rick Perry. It was close to a disqualifying two hours for him. Bill’s solution: “A big man for a big job.” And you know who that is.

Perry is an open-borders Democrat. Your other fave Cain worked for the Federal Reserve which is worse than Goldman Sachs.

Rick Santorum is the best conservative in the field right now followed by Bachmann.

All the more reason to elect a conservative - Rick Santorum. The elites want Romney, Perry or Newt.

Thank you for that thought. I will try to remember it the next time that I get discouraged.

It wasn’t good. It’s also not even October. We’ll see what happens in the coming months.

I admit I didn’t watch the debate; I have more interesting things to do with my life than watch a GOP pissing match more than a year before the actual election. But, from the articles I saw, it was not bad enough to end his campaign in one night.

Hopefully it was bad enough he realizes he needs some definite debate coaching. But, it wasn’t the end in one night.

I am not a big Perry fan, but he’s better than Romney.

I have seen CW go out of her way to avoid flame wars.

I've seen her instigate, widen, and perpetuate them. So in my world a good nose-rubbing is in order. Shield, Clairity, smoothsailing, and others too.

Perry is worse than an empty suit. He's a glad handing, back-slapping, old fashioned pretty boy, feel-good-now, shaft-you-later politician. Even my wife cringes every time he speaks. The number of deer-in-the-headlights moments he gave us last night should have been enough for anybody. The guy just doesn't have the mental acuity to know how to turn the barrage back on its perpetrator. If he can't handle an obvious two-faced huckster like Romney, he's dead meat in a truly hostile media environment.

Needless to say, that's why the mediots like him. He's an easy kill for a later day.

Love Santorum. There’s lots of fixin’ needs doin’, which would best be accomplished by a steel spine. Palin also comes to mind. They’re #1 and #2 imho, but we’re OK with almost any because, as mentioned, of the TP congresscritters we’ve sent and will send.

As for the RINO’s...they’re followers and not leaders so they’ll be happy to join the victory parade.

we will not be voting for a candidate. We’ll be voting against One.

I think I can live with that this year.

You're the first and only person I've heard say that about Romney. I'm glad you thought he looked good. Sorry but you have a lot of work to do to convince me to willfully vote for Romney.

Just to be clear ... it's not my mission to convince you or anyone to vote for Romney. Quite the contrary, I am not a fan of country club conservatives. I'm steering all the votes I can to Cain, Bachmann, and Santorum --- and maybe Gingrich if he can convince me he is reborn a conservative. I will not vote Romney under any circumstance. I would only vote for Perry if he made a brilliant VP pick, as McCain did. And even then, my vote is not guaranteed for him. I believe what Bachmann said was accurate, we have a rare opportunity not to have to settle. And Perry is definitely settling.

Looks like the GOP Greybeards (sorry, I watched McGlaughlin Group last night, I can’t believe John is still kickin’ it) want a Romney/Christie ticket. Oy vey.

“Don’t worry, the bluebloods still have plenty of time to put Christie, or Jeb, or somebody else up to it before filing deadlines.

Why? They already have Romney running.

I predict at least two big names more jump in before the November filing deadlines.

I’m pretty concerned that Perry hasn’t done better in these question and answer settings, but he has time to improve. However, close elections can be decided in how the nominees of the two parties do in Oct. before the election and Perry has not shown himself ready for that yet.”

Very late response to your post, but her goes: Yes, they have Romney running, but that means they would rather have the Democrat nominee for another four years than a conservative, because even Romney knows he likely won’t get more votes than the Democrat nominee. So now that it seems Perry can’t either, the question is, do they put someone else up that they think might actually defeat the Democrat nominee?

I agree, Mr. Huckabee. You should have run again, except this time as an economic conservative as well as social conservative.

Hate to disappoint you, there is no “Perry’s collapse”.

As I posted a thread — the smoothest debater is not what we need for president — or are you for Romney now because he won the debates?

Perry was way behind Kate Baily Hutchinson and I don’t think Kate is gov of Texas now.

You are just projecting your wishful thinking.

Also — Perry is a lot more conservative than Christie.

My thoughts exactly.

The only thing I do love about Chris Christie is watching him slap down teachers and unions.

You all, who support him, do realize that is his finest feature and IF elected POTUS it ends. POTUS can't exactly be slapping down teachers from the podium, unless, ofcourse, they are Democrats.

“Now all us good little conservatives will get our “asses in line” and support the establishment GOP candidate like we’ve been told.”

Classic!

If you really think Palin can’t win, why do you have Palin/Cain 2012 next to your name?? I don’t know if she will run. I think the chance are getting better every day. But she sure seems like Reagan at this time in the 1976 election. The fact is that event are seeming to have a momentum of their own, just like they did Carter.
