Palin Waiting Game Could Run Into October
by Scott Conroy - September 23, 2011

Decision day for Sarah Palin is coming next week. That is, of course, unless it isn’t.

Asked in July when she would decide whether to run for president, the former Alaska governor told Fox News’ Sean Hannity, “August and September. You do have to start laying out a plan if you are to be one to throw your hat in the ring, so that's basically the time frame.”

During an early August appearance at the Iowa state fair, Palin echoed that language, suggesting again that late-summer was “basically” her deadline to decide.

“That is still a possibility for a timetable,” Palin replied when asked about the matter. “Yes, definitely.”

For anyone who may have been confused about whether late-September was “definitely” the timetable or merely “definitely a possibility” for a timetable, Palin did little to clarify the matter during another Fox News interview this week. Hannity this time asked her whether November was the month by which she would need to make a decision

And, from today's "Open Thread" at conservatives4palin.com:

Scott Conroy reports that “Palin’s aides insist that they have constructed a plan by which they could have a fully functional — if tiny, by contemporary standards — operation ready within a couple of weeks.”

The narrative that Rick Perry completely fell apart last night has even persuaded the Economist that once she gets in, it’ll be a race between her and Mitt “peacetime” Romney.

Is there any incentive for the Governor to participate in the October 11 debate on Bloomberg TV?  Even if you assume that she has time to get back from South Korea to where the debate is being held, why would she enter a debate that won’t even be televised?  A dominant performance by her would just be sweeped under the rug in the same way the media has refused to report on the Marist-McClatchy Palin-Obama general election poll numbers.   It makes more sense to go into a debate that she knows will draw a large national audience so the media cannot sweep a dominant performance under the rug.

Her “crony capitalism” line is the idea of the political season.

Nothing Obama or the GOP field have said has caught people’s attention the way that has.

Well, if nothing else, she gets to run scrimmages in private while everybody else does theirs on national TV. These days, it’s the “gotcha” moment that is hurting any candidate. Reduce those and you’ve got a shot - at any office.

As I posted recently:
I think that Governor Palin will make public her decision about running for President VERY SOON.
(The decision itself, of course, was made the day that she resigned as Governor of Alaska -- if not before, IMHO.)
While it can be great fun to speculate exactly where, when and how she will announce -- my current position is, that I'd like for her to surprise me.
I'm sure that she will. :o)

It’s an absolute SLAM DUNK that she’ll be announcing on Constitution Day.

There are practical deadlines — ballot access, specifically, where the deadlines start on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. From there, you have to work backwards to be able to set up at least a skeleton organization and enough fundraising and/or signature drives to meet the ballot access requirements.

So practically, a date on or around October 1 is likely, although it could be possible to push that to on or around October 15, but that would be cutting it pretty fine.

I think one of her new years’ resolutions should be making a decision on whether or not to be running for president.

Sarah Palin should be held accountable for all the heads she has exploded in the past and still does today. [/sarc]

suggesting again that late-summer was “basically” her deadline to decide.

Today is the first day of Fall. Not too late but time constraints are rapidly approaching. Then again there are nine debates left so anything can happen yet.

I don’t know if she’s outsmarting herself. Staying out of the fray didn’t help Fred Thompson much.

I have reservations about Palin, but as I’ve said endlessly, she’s the only one who’s articulating the ideas I share. Just when I give up on her, she comes up with “crony capitalism” and I go “DAMN!” and I’m willing to listen again.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m worried that a Palin candidacy will give us Romney as the nominee. Palin getting in now will split the conservative vote.

No. That's not quite correct.

Sarah Palin and The Brody File One-On-One at Iowa State Fair

David Brody: Is that short order by the end of September? October?

Palin: I think that that is a fair timeline for people, because Fall time, they can start getting engaged with different campaigns, but still thinking about it, and really, really desiring to be a participant in the positive change that needs to happen in this country.

I don’t think Sarah will have a formal announcement until after her trip to S. Korea. People can’t say anything about a private citizen speaking in SK, but they may get bent out of shape about a candidate speaking. But with our media, we all know if all else fails, ‘they will make things up’. Also, Sarah can get lots of face time talking about her recent ‘international experience’ trip and no one has to give equal time to the other candidates. I also think she needs a few more weeks for ducks to be lined up. Just my opinion, but regardless I am not concerned about what Sarah is doing. I am ready when she pulls the trigger.

Off topic. Does anyone have a link to Sarah on Greta last night? Can’t find one and I missed the interview.

Have a great day patriots.
