Michele Bachmann
Bachmann is serving her 3rd full term in the U.S. House. Founder of the House Tea Party Caucus, worked as a tax attorney, and was a foster mother for 23 teenagers. She is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Newt Gingrich
Gingrich served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. He represented Georgia's 6th congressional district as a Republican member from 1979 to 1999. He has a PhD in modern European history.
Jon Huntsman
Huntsman was Utah Governor, former ambassador to China under Barack Obama.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. He’s an ob-gyn and was Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Rick Perry
Perry is the three term governor of Texas, from 2000 to current. He is a retired Air Force captain for former farmer. He has a degree in animal science.
Mitt Romney
Romney was governor of Massachusetts (2003 to 2007) and former CEO of Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican 2008 nomination for president. He has an MBA (Harvard) and JD (Harvard Law).
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Gary Johnson
Johnson served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2002. He founded what would become one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico. He has competed in several triathlons and climbed Mount Everest.

I think you are right. The new Fall network shows started this week. Something tells me the ratings on those will far outshine the debate numbers. Even I decided to watch CBS's primetime and catch the debate now in rerun.
I think Herman Cain did very well
No, he's not, he's sleazier then McCain and that's saying a lot. If Romney is the nominee, Obama will be the president.
Did Perry actually say "I want boots on the ground and aviation assets on the ground"? One time I think it was even "Aviation assets in the ground."
Shouldn't the aviation assets be in the air? Just askin'

The enforcent has to be against the employers. The penalties for hiring someone who is not in the country legally should be so bad that nobody will want to chance having illegal(s) on the payroll.
Once you do that, businesses will find the method to keep them safe from those penalties. You don't have to mandate the method.
Once employers stop employing illegals, there will be no job opportunities and these people will go elsewhere (back to their home country, or to another more "friendly" country.
I thought Cain did well, too. He answered all the questions, and he took it to Obama without saying much against any of the others. He did mention Romney's plan to tax people making over $200,000 while allowing people under that income level to be tax exempt for interest/dividends/capital gains. He didn't do that in a bad way (althought he should have avoided Romney's name specifically).

I like Cain. I actually cut the "Mc" off of one of my 2008 "McCain - Palin" bumper stickers. Though I would prefer Sarah at the top (and I don't think she'll run for VP again.
But Cain was also not allowed rebuttals when Romney mentioned him by name. The cameras weren't on him, but he should have been waving, pounding on the podium or otherwise getting attention and standing up for his allowed rebuttal time.
Fox was definitely pimping Romney. And he did extremely well, but you get confidence when you realize that the organizers/moderators are on your side.
I'm not 100% sure what I would do with Perry at the top of the ticket. Probably hold my nose and vote. For the primaries, though, I have this position:

I'm pretty sure Obama and his campaign team want Perry to run against. Republicans might be misunderestimating the hatred of George W. Bush from the left, and the disappointment with him from the right (TEA party types). I have dozens of letters to my Congress critter from 2001 through 2005 where I was opposed to Bush and his massive spending and expansion of the federal government.
Perry's immigration position is too much a clone of George W. Bush. At least tonight, his accent and voice didn't sound as much like George W. Bush as he has in the past. But I'm watching the rerun right now, and his voice tones are still too "Bush-like." That also will work against him.
I think Romney won tonight, but I think Fox stacked it in his favor. I'll also say that if it's Romney vs. Obama, we're in for 4 more years of socialism, and I will probably stay home (or more likely leave the top line on my ballot blank), because I don't care too much which socialist wins.

It’s a damn shame too because I really, really like him a lot. Other than Sarah, he’s the only one that gives me that feeling that Reagan did.
But another follow the money tie has gone unnoticed. Rick Perry’s wife Anita had been a Merck consultant while working in a lobbying firm as her husband climbed the state government ladder. Anyone think that’s Tea Party ideals?
Back to looking for info on when he met that woman.

I do think Perry has charisma, it didn’t shine through tonight, though. Perry is very much a people person and I think people who meet him have a hard time disliking him.
He isn’t very polished, that needs a little work but not too much—Romney is TOO polished, like a car salesman.
Winners: Mitt Romney - Remains unflappable despite the Perry slams; extremely well spoken as always; projects leadership. He will pick up steam after this. Hermain Cain - likeable, definitive, pro-growth and improving as a debater. Moves past his previous mistatements.
Losers: Rick Perry - Struggled; can't manage a very easy line of attack against the duality of Romney's past positions, wow; takes shots and comes out the worse for the wear. I expect the margin with Romney to shrink;
The others did reasonably well in way or another, but didn't manage to elevate themselves.
They might be even more likely to believe that if they take their advice from leftist counselors. E. g. "You have a right to be here! This land was taken by force from Mexico in the 18th century!"
That said, illegal aliens have a much more difficult time doing that, especially those who came across the border versus visa overstays.
Let's say an illegal is living in Texas and has a brother or sister or adult child who is naturalized. He can apply for permanent residence based on that family member. (Having a family member marry a US citizen can be the start of a process which imports the whole family). I think previous immigration problems would make that application more difficult, but I don't know if just living here illegally would be a problem.
We have an estimated 8 million illegal aliens working in the US. They are doing so illegally.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. If Perry continues to falter, someone else will likely emerge to fill the void. Look, in 2008 Romney inspired no passion among the GOP electorate. This is how we got Mclame. And if you look at the map, I just don’t see how he wins anything in the south. He almost certainly loses Iowa and SC, and if he somehow loses New Hampshire, he will be toast.
I think despite the media trying to select our nominee for us, and despite Romney’s pandering and willingness to be whatever we want him to be today, the grass roots simply wont accept him. Once the primaries start, someone else will emerge to fill the role of the anti-Romney.
If Perry can’t do it and Palin doesn’t get in, then Herman Cain might just be the guy. He’s looked awfully good these last few debates. If he can get up to speed on foreign policy, I don’t see why he can’t get up into the top tier.
Romney won. I was for Bachmann but it is over. Romney/ Rubio. It is finished and they will beat hillary!!
I got a note that it is up on Drudge now and that Twitter is yakking about it. Apparently it is going to be sold as true, unless.....it isn’t.
So, if illegal families are being drawn to Texas, it’s for 3 years prior to college, they graduate and stay out of trouble with the law.
As I posted, OK all the pro-TX education of “undocumented” students posters have clarified that the students are “only” getting their out-of-state tuition waived. Great. Glad there are some criteria such as 3 years residency, stay out of trouble, etc. altho someone else posted that granting preferences is illegal under a Federal 1996 Immigration Bill..... So it is illegal, but then they are illegal. Ah the rule of law, no one cares.
Don’t forget that all students are competing for loans, scholarships, grants, jobs, etc.
I am concerned that Perry did not say something to effect that tho the TX Legislature voted for this, he would handle differently on national scale...
I disagree that Romney won. He’s a creep.
Newt used those words with the comment that they were spoken by Reagan. Ronald Reagan used humor to make his points instead of bald-faced attacks. It’s what made him such a great debater.
