McCotter, who struggled to gain traction against better-financed rivals and failed to achieve the necessary support to be invited to Republican debates, announced that he would now support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the Republican primary.

Everyone loved him when he spoke up against TARP.
Then he argued to bailout the auto companies...

I think McCotter just got in the race so he could write off a big summer picnic.

Another “true conservative” for Romney. well according to a few I saw on here. Interesting how the “true conservatives” keep getting bought off by the most liberal Republican in the race.

Whether you like Thad McCotter or not, you ALL should be disgusted that THE MEDIA is picking who the Republican nominee is going to be, just like they picked the disaster that is Pres. Obama in 2008.

Thad McCotter was NOT LISTED on nearly all the polls that were cited for entry into the debate. Pretty tough to get numbers that way.

In addition, last Tuesday, while all the other candidates, the MEDIA and Talk Radio were consumed with Gov. Perry’s Ponzi statement, Cong. McCotter introduced the SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT, that not only saves Social Security, but does so WITHOUT raising the retirement age, WITHOUT raising the payroll tax, WITHOUT reducing benefits and WITHOUT privatizing the system. THE MEDIA’S RESPONSE? ZERO COVERAGE, and that includes Rush, Hannity, Levin and Ingraham.

Enjoy your media puppet debate tonight. And when you get a chance, read Thad McCotter’s Book, SEIZE FREEDOM, and see what you’re missing. The people on that stage tonight don’t even know who Edmund Burke, Chesterton and Beloc are. Thad McCotter quotes all of them in his book.

“awww ... he was wrong on the auto bailouts but given his district .. “

but that is why he is for Romney. Romney is big in Michigan because of his father.

No wonder he dropped out. I didn’t even know he was in, and I read here every day.

I just heard Carl Cameron (?) on Fox say that he hasn’t endorsed Romney yet. They’re all just supposing he will.

You still just don't get it do you? No candidate that voted FOR Card Check, supported auto bailouts and SPONSORED a $165 billion dollar union pension bailout is going to have any chance in the Republican primary this year. I've seen your posts trying to explain away his vote for Card Check (which would have been the greatest gift to unions in about 50 years and stripped Americans of their right to a secret ballot), explain away the auto bailouts, but what about his SPONSORING a bill to bail out union pensions? I mean, come on man. That bill was so bad the Democrats couldn't even pass it, when they had massive majorities, in the midst of their stimulus and bailout orgy.

For a relative unknown that isn't especially charismatic, it was never going to be possible for him to get anywhere with that kind of baggage. McCotter is just too in the tank for unions, and one of the biggest problems we face (particularly at the local and state government level) is an obscenely bloated public sector which cycles what is essentially tax payer money into the Democratic party. This vicious cycle HAS to be broken and McCotter is a guy who not only couldn't be counted on to champion that fight - he might actually be on the side of unions during it.

If there were a solution that painless, I would think it would've already been implemented. What's the downside to his plan?

Supposed real conservatives don't endorse Romney.

I guess anything goes. The way the state of Texas has always talked up here, I never thought supposed real conservatives would be attacking the governor of that state the way they are. I thought he would go over big - you know - the whole God, guns, country and pro-life thing? I always thought that was our platform. Silly me.

All I can tell you is that the Social Security Actuary scored it and said it would save $8.5 trillion, the largest government spending reduction in the history of the world.

Nope, I am happily in a Right to Work state and we don't have much unionization and no public unions at all. Somehow our teachers and other government workers seem to do just fine, our state budget is balanced and our unemployment rate is far below that of most unionized states. If states like Michigan followed that example they'd be doing MUCH better. McCotter could never be counted on to endorse such solutions because he is in the back pocket of unions.

I’ll go through this one more time. You don’t like his union stance, even though I showed you that his favorablity ratings among the unions topped out with the teamsters who gave him a 20 % rating. Fine.

What about his immigration stance? Tougher plan than anyone in the race. What about re-structuring the banks? Tougher plan that anyone in the race. Social Security? The ONLY plan in the race. Communist China? Toughest stance in the race. 100 % pro life, “A” rating from the NRA, a “0” rating from the NEA, multiple awards from the American Conservative Union. So, you’re willing to go softer on all those issues because of a vote that he viewed as a district vote and later described as a mistake?

“I liked what I saw of Thaddeus McCotter but he just couldn’t overcome the prejudice against the name “Thaddeus.” People probably thought he was Polish.”

Worse than that! Some Southrons figured he must be related to Thaddeus Stevens, the Devil incarnate!

Hadn't thought about Thaddeus Stevens...that would definitely be the kiss of death if he was named for him.

I was thinking of Thaddeus Kosciusko (as his name is spelled in Mississippi).
