Rick Perry's Solyndra: "Venture Socialism" - The Texas Way!
American Thinker ^ | Sept 22, 2011 | Brian T. Carter

Posted on 09/22/2011 10:20:57 AM PDT by RobaWho

"Venture Socialism" Perry Style! In Texas, bio-tech firm Convergen LifeSciences looks a lot like Governor Rick Perry's Solyndra. Governor Perry manages the Emerging Technology Fund (ETF), providing financial support to companies developing new technology in the hope of creating high-tech jobs. First created in 2005, ETF is made up of regional panels that screen proposals for a statewide advisory panel (all appointed by Perry). ETF dispersed $342 million through August 2010....Read more to understand the full stench of this Crony Capitalism love story.

“Oh never mind. They don’t call us the Stupid Party for nothing.”

No. No they don’t. The Grand Old Potty must be flushed.

We sure have some dense FReepers. This is just garbage commentary. Perry is an excellent candidate.

You guys are like DUers on the left. You are so idealistic in your desires and you are probably not able to live up to half of what your preach and want in a candidate.

Santorum couldn’t even win a senate seat in his own state, what makes anyone think he can win nationwide office????

Let’s get real, here!

Cain, Santorum, Palin, if she enters.

With Perry, little will change other than the appointment of pro-life judges.

Texas is supposedly the “nation's miracle state,” yet the Lone Star State is anticipating a $10 billion shortfall next year (half of what California is expecting). It doesn't appear that Perry is any more of a budget hawk than Bush43 or Arnold:

Your post should be memorized and accepted by all on this thread! Amen, my friend!

The only clarification I would make is, “when” she gets in. We ARE storming the beaches of Normandy in 2012. Timing of when the invasion is launched is the only question. No good General reveals her offensive campaign strategy in advance.

She is driving the main stream media and RINO lovers totally crazy. Love. It.

Who do you like?

Solid for Gov. Palin since I chugged a half bottle of Maalox, walked into the voting booth and pushed the button for McCain-Palin.

And no, I was not voting for McCain...

I finished the bottle of Maalox on the way home.

You turkeys. You could call Reagen a RINO for Amnesty and his desire to work with Tip ONeil.

We need smart FReepers to win in 2012, not this garbage commentary and posts.

I use Google to try to find out who the author of this article is and what his previous articles are (i.e. who he is working for).

For "Brian T. Carter," there are no previous articles...on American Thinker or elsewhere.

“You guys are like DUers on the left.”

If by that, you mean I think that both establishment parties and their members are corrupt, then yes, I am just like that. We have that in common, me and your average DUmmy. I think that we are so hopelessly locked in a broken, corrupt system, that only a Tea Party will free us. That, of course, is where I differ from the DUmmy. He he believe in hope and change; I am looking for hard nosed, bare knuckle reform. And that means getting rid of the Corrupt Bastards that have taken us by the bawls and are killing my country. On BOTH sides of the aisle.

Slick Rick is one of THEM, not one of US.

If you can’t see that, you’re part of the problem. You’ll keep jumping up and down clapping your little hands screaming “goody, goody, we WON!”

You sound like a lib with your “generalities” and no specifics. “Garbage” - “Idealistic” - we’re just “hypocrites” - I guess because we don’t agree with you, huh?

Remember a former president named Nixon who couldn't win a governorship?

2012 is going to be like 1980. Things will be that bad in another year.

In 1980, virtually anyone the Republicans ran would have beaten Carter (Ford, Baker or Bush43). Fortunately Reagan was the nominee.

Let's run a true conservative, not Texas's answer to Richard Daley.

-"Who the hell is Bryan T. Carter? "

Good point. I can't find any background on him. Seems strange that he pops out of nowhere. I wounder if that's his real name.

Most of the article seems to be a conclusion in search of facts to back it up, however, given the fact that Nance was a well-connected, large donor, and:
Convergen received help in circumventing the normal process. This part is very murky. Somehow, the proposal that failed the regional review was presented at the closed-door session of the state advisory panel (which previously included Nance), where it was approved. While the governor's office claimed that an appeal was filed, there is no appeals process in ETF's charter. The process by which Convergen received $4.5 million -- the highest amount ever awarded -- was "extraordinary."
There is the possibility of a problematic pattern here. The Gardasil mandate through executive order would also be best described as unusual or extraordinary. In both cases, the people involved were connected to Perry.

Now, individually, one can say that each case may have been a correct decision, if not necessarily handled the "proper" way. But multiple "improper" decisions taken together mean something else entirely.

Once is a fluke. Twice is coincidence. But three or more make a pattern. If there are more stories like this, where well-connected folks got government perks through extraordinary means, then this is a major problem for Perry.

"...the Perry fangirl credo."

I have noticed that Perry's most vocal supporters are women who have said he is handsome, has great hair, etc.

God help us should voters actually consider such frivolities in selecting a conservative nominee to challenge Barry.

Perry looks worse by the hour. Romney has NEVER been conservative. Two progressive RINOs without a difference between them.

OK, you have won me over. I'm either not going to vote or I'm going for four more years of the Real Thing™

And those hoping for Palin have yet to see the half of what will happen to her if she enters the race. Too back Michelle is such a political ditz.

This was brought up in the comments on American Thinker. There isn’t any background information on the author at all. NONE, no education, work history, affiliations etc. It’s usually a good thing to get an idea where the author is coming from before swallowing what they say.

I mean, isn’t that what you Palin supporters are doing to Joe McGinniss’ book?

Reagan did not have the advantage of witnessing what had failed in the past. He thought he had a deal with the Dems exchanging amnesty for enhanced border security and other steps to halt illegal immigration. The Dems reneged and Senator Simpson let him down badly.

Quote: “I agree! RomneyCare makes me puke. PerryCare mandates make me puke.”

Whoa, there is no such thing as “PerryCare.” I do not disagree with you about the HPV mandate but let us not equate that with the wholesale government take over of the healthcare program like ObamaCare and RomneyCare.

At least (and it isn’t really that much but at least it is a start) Perry has admitted that he made a mistake and would not repeat it.
