Armed Services Chairman Says Defense Cuts Will Bring Back The Draft
Robert Johnson
Sep. 21, 2011, 8:55 AM
Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Buck McKeon says that if agreements on spending cuts aren't reached the U.S. may reinstate the draft.
We ... need to understand what its going to mean to keep an all-volunteer force, McKeon told Fox. Do we want to reinstitute the draft? Some of the cuts were talking about would take over 200,000 out of end strength from our military (via The Washington Post).
The 200,000 figure was derived from the $600 billion in mandated defense cuts that will start in January 2013 if the 12-member supercommittee does not reach a budget deal.
Sometimes, we forget that a volunteer military is very expensive, McKeon continued. No one is proposing resurrecting a conscript system. However, the cuts required under a sequestration scenario would force us to break faith with the troops -- destroying our ability to retain forces in sufficient numbers to meet the threats we face.
Basically, if the cuts go into effect we will do so little for troops that's been promised that current troops will not remain, and new members will not join.
As it stands now Congress is already looking to cut promised pension plans and retirement healthcare.

oh bs.
We will never have a draft again
The all volunteer Army is far superior
Draft is a bad idea all around
Now, as the Brits would say, let’s put paid to the idea that “you have to pay for talent”. the people you want are those that have a calling for the work. If someone is simply selling himself to the highest bidder, you don’t want him.
Charley Rangel is ecstatic.

Yep and they’re looking at opening community colleges in Egypt.
I’d volunteer to defend my county, but I’m not sure I’d allow myself to be drafted.
Not into a military that has sunk to such depraved levels as ours has.
The repeal of DADT has opened the gate to even more social changes than the military will be able to handle.
“We will never have a draft again:”
Let’s see what happens now that normal people will be forced to cohabit with overt Rump Rangers and Lesbos.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a mass exodus.
No one is proposing resurrecting a conscript system”.
Really, this is a one of the goals of a great many libs in
a position to make it happen, depending on the results of
the next election.
Very unlikely in this crappy economy and the high unemployment rate.
Yeah, lets reinstate the draft so our young people can be forced to defend foreigners in foreign countries who won’t defend themselves while our borders are being over run by illegals in the millions.
The point is that if the incentives to make a career of the military are taken away the all volunteer force and the experienced career force will fade away. Many first volunteer out of a sense of service and patriotism but after four years of service, usually marriage and starting a family the assured care and welfare of your family becomes more important. Even during WWII when enlistments were high a draft was necessary, so with nothing on that scale on the mat, enlistees have to have some sense that the benefits for their families make up for the sacrifices and risks.
The military itself is not depraved. The majority of the Soldiers I serve with are honest, hardworking and proud to do so. It’s the “policy” that comes from above that is depraved. We still do our jobs of supporting and defending the Constitution. With the repeal of DADT, I’m sad to say it is hard to get the cat back in once it has been let out of the bag. Our military is filled with honorable men and women.
To coincide with the repeal of DADT I will be submitting my retirement papers soon. After 22+ years of service I no longer feel I can continue as I will not support the “army” policy under the Equal Opportunity program which was never really equal in the first place. It caters to minorities and ignores others.
BINGO!! The draft will allow the scumbag Left to again whine about the “unfairness” to the people (minorities) who are forced into military service.
There is already a movement afoot to have the military recognize gay marriage and to provide benefits to gay partnerships similar to those received by married personnel. For gays, the fight is just beginning with the end of DADT. Discrimination against gays will be made a hate crime. One can only imagine what kind of incidents will occur at the officer and enisted clubs with the overt display of homosexuality.
I thought that removal of DADT would force the need for a draft...(who would want to volunteer to fight in a gay military?)
Now the budget cut angle.
I won’t serve in the “gay mans” army, even if drafted...
In a terrible economy, there will be enlistments.
Like I said, the people you want aren’t doing it for the pay anyway
If true, this is good news, in that cutbacks will cause voluntary attrition, and we won’t need to fire any volunteers.
Our military is perfectly capable of tightening their belts. We can’t afford to fiscally destroy the nation they are defending.
The “ALL-VOLUNTEER” military has become THE place to go if you’re a faggot or dyke. Long-time veterans will be leaving in numbers now. They will draft because no self-respecting real MEN will want to join a bunch of faggots for shower-time.
Constitution for the United States of America...Article. I. Section. 8.and
The Congress shall have Power ... To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions; To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States
U.S. Code TITLE 10 > Subtitle A > PART I > CHAPTER 13 > § 311.
Militia: composition and classes
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
To wit: a "draft" is what the Founding Fathers had in mind.
In that light, may I suggest FReepers volunteer for their local (or higher) "Draft Board".
