SAN ANTONIO -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry remains one of the front-runners for the Republican Presidential Nomination, and depending on who you ask, many think he'll get it.
John Sharp, the recently confirmed Chancellor of Texas A&M University who ran against Perry in the 1998 general election for Lieutenant Governor, gave his take on the race while visiting Texas A&M- San Antonio on Tuesday.
"It's a full time deal running against Rick Perry, and anybody who sells him short is an idiot, because it will be a tough campaign," Sharp said.
Sharp has known Perry since his college days, where the two served in the same outfit in the Corp Cadets. "We were really good friends until we ran against each other," Sharp said.
Sharp, a Democrat, lost to Perry with 48% of the vote, during the 1998 election. During that race, the polls were tied as voters got ready to cast their ballots. Then came the flood of 1998.
"In October of 1998 or late September, this huge flood came through the area, from San Marcos and down to Victoria," Sharp said. "That was my old senate district, (I'm from Victoria) and so I'm trying to get people to get out and vote, and they're out in boat, trying to rescue their furniture and things like that."
Sharp says his loss was partly due to Perry's good timing and good luck, and believes Perry will win the Republican nomination, but stopped short of saying he will be the next president.

Sharp blames a flood for his defeat? What a douchebag.
So, the decision has been made !
Forget the Primaries, on to the General Election !!
P.S. If I could do it now I would :)
"It's a full time deal running against Rick Perry, and anybody who sells him short is an idiot, because it will be a tough campaign," Sharp said.Heh heh, that's good 'cause after McCain licked Barry's shoes I am ready for our candidate to take it to the High Chair King.
Not as far as I'm concerned.
....."He is an extremely astute politician with a keen sense of where voters are, and he has great instincts on message. Perry has ruthless discipline and communication. They say in politics, Dont let your boot off an opponents neck till Election Day. Perry doesnt take his boot off till a year after the votes have been counted and the opponent has faded into oblivion.".....
I must say that is one good looking man. A hunk, as it were.
P.S., I must say it’s nice to have some eye candy running for President this time around, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and Michelle Bachman are all very easy on the eye. And all three of them have good hair to boot.
I don’t think so.
GO PALIN !
It was posted (well, I do liked the headline) because it is an interesting story and tells us something about Perry -- a GOP candidate.
Will Perry be president? I certainly want him to be. My purpose in posting all the threads that I have, is to help people vet Perry and learn about him.
No need to take swings over comments made about Perry. They weren't made against your candidate.
He has an honest face — expressive, and he doesn’t worry about posing when the cameras are around.
You’re not posting threads to “vet” him, otherwise you wouldn’t take umbrage at critical responses. These are no different than the Slick Willard worship threads from the last go-around. One of his most militant disciples I see is posting in this thread...
I was just taking a moment to have a conversation. I get critical responses all the time and I reply to them with information. I am focused on getting Obama out of the White House and the environmentalists, teacher unions and predatory trial lawyers wings clipped. I want to see the Left lose their evil control over the lives of millions of Americans and have this country come back from the brink, using all our untapped (human and resource) potential.
I like Worf. I think he’s upset with you.
