Americans don’t take those jobs. I live in the South, where we have abundant numbers of unemployed blacks and rural whites, and nobody shows up for the laborer jobs except Latin Americans.

The blacks expect the employers to pick them up in a van and then never show up anyway, and the whites will work a day and then quit because “only Mexicans” would do that work. The work might be roofing or something unpleasant, but if you want a job, you’ve got to do it.

Semi-literate blacks and whites here, who could be the laborers, are living off the bennies given to their baby mommas, and the only people who will actually show up for the jobs are foreigners, particularly Latin Americans.

And this is after the federal government has spent a fortune on “job training” for our native unemployed, who all seem to think they are cut out for something better than landscaping or roofing...even though they’re less literate than the Mexicans and use more drugs and alcohol than anybody would have thought possible.

“Americans don’t take those jobs. “

You mean in the history of the United States we’ve always had to count on Mexicans to do those jobs? Of course not.

The problem is a complicated one, but when business started hiring illegals they pushed down the wages. What was a respectable $24/hour roofers job became an $6 hour job that came with all kinds of other nasties like not having an employer and having to stand around and hoped to be picked for the job. That is an unfair and biased market, not a free market using fair competition.

When businesses started using illegals at fast food restaurants, what was a good part-time job for people like teenagers became a depressed wage and working condition environment and employers started demanding American worker speak Spanish.

We didn’t become lazy as a nation, we found taking the jobs wasn’t worth it. Well, if we are going to make it worth it again we need to deport the illegals and create the demand for workers once again and let wages and working conditions come back as the markets demand.
