It was the exact same thing with Bush.

It’s all lies.

The immigration issue is Perry’s weak point. Excepting for his stance on immigration I would vote for him.

What a load o’crap; no one who’s ever gonna be elected will do anything to protect the borders. It’s a total lost cause and until the Mexican’s in the U.S. start feeling real pain from the open borders program, or the U.S. loses a major city such as LA or Tuscon to the Zeta’s the Feds aren’t going to do anything at all.

The kernel..the nugget of it all is taxes, regulation, and immigration

The story of American jobs and labor is deeply intertwined with predatory Federal, state and local taxation and regulation....

South Koreans sleep soundly on their border with NORKS because of American Taxpayer dollars and the American GI.

Why can’t Texans, New Mexicans, Arizonans and Californians?....BECAUSE

Illegal immigration is THE KEY to the perpetuation of the status quo in DC......

Predatory tax and regulatory policies-actions that basically serve to perpetuate and grow governments-leave what business is left in the country seeking disposable labor.

Illegal Labor is the Feds out for preserving the status quo regarding Taxes and Regulation. Interestingly, that is WHY the Feds encourage in-state tuition etc for illegals under-the-table -their presence providing disposable labor allows Federal, State and local regulatory and tax excess in the status quo to continue

Immigration is the ultimate litmus test as to the candidates in question commitment to meaningful regulatory and tax reform. If they are wishy-washy on the subject...they have no real intent to disturb the DC status quo...no matter how big their cowboy hat and six-gun.

Real”leadership” is that which will place Flyover Country’s interest ahead of the Feds....haven’t yet seen anything meaningful anywhere from anybody to indicate that might happen. We have just one more election cycle to make that happen via rule of law. Otherwise its the end of the run for America.

***Texas Tea Party leaders are unhappy ...***

I don't believe the Tea Party has any ‘leaders’, per se

I submit that ALL (bona fide) tea party people are leaders in their own right. Much to the chagrin of the anti-American left.

Unfortunately, I think the Political Class (Republican and Democrat) support open borders (Illegals) because it is the only way to keep Social Security solvent.

From a link in Michelle Malkin's story on the sanctuary cities bill;

Despite Perry's public commitment to the measure, some critics questioned the depth of his support after reports that Bob Perry, who is not related to the governor, and San Antonio grocery store magnate Charles Butt were waging a subsurface effort to scuttle the bill. Bob Perry and his wife, Doylene, have contributed more than $2 million to Rick Perry since 2001. The Houston home builder has also donated to the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, whose members led opposition to the sanctuary cities bill.

You know, I REALLY would like to see our borders sealed, but after reading a bit of Texas history, I now understand why even conservative Texas governors are not all that bullish about a super tight border.

Not saying I agree with them, but I think I understand their perspective.

You should at least do some reading on the subject:
From Speech to La Raza: 2010

Perry repeated his criticism of the federal government’s approach to border security. He said Texas has invested in keeping its residents safe from spillover violence because the federal government failed in its duty.

And, he said, the federal government’s failure to secure the border is the reason states like Arizona have taken on immigration policy.

“Until America secures the border, a rational debate on immigration policy is not going to happen,” Perry said

His internal polls must be telling him his stance is costing him a significant number of votes. I wonder if he can change his position? Time will tell.

Guess this is YOUR definitive thread on Rick Perry.

Can't defend the indefensible and won't. Having said that, I always thought immigration would be the one major issue that would come back to bite Perry. Its no secret Perry has a mixed record on immigration. However, not quite as bad as some would have us believe.

Perry still opposes blanket amnesty and supports more BP agents, TNG troops if necessary and the best high tech hardware money can buy. He believes a fence running the entire Tex-Mex border is unrealistic, but supports fences that secure metro areas. Perry also says the feds are ultimately responsible for securing the border. And they are.

Most conservatives don't support in-state tuition. I don't. But the conservative Texas legislature passed it with only a few dissenters. I agree with Perry, it is a states rights issue and the people of Texas approved. Since 2001, the in-state tuition law has been made stricter. I heard Perry's speech to La Raza, not good. You know a politician who has never pandered?

I guess if some conservatives dont' like Perry because of his mixed immigration record, they can vote for Romney or one of the second tier candidates who are fading away. I think most conservatives will look at Perry's overall immigration position and hold their nose.

What’s comical about any notion that Perry opposes sanctuary cities is that he is on record as favoring a work permit for illegals, which would eliminate any need for sanctuary cities (from the illegals viewpoint).

He’s as bad or worse than W Bush on the issue of illegal aliens.

Just waiting for him to come out with: “Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande”.

I think it’d be better to ask Obama ‘bout those borders...this is getting rather stupid...ask him when he is president...Texans have spent in just the last couple of years...400 million tax dollars on the borders and Perry has billed the feds for the money spent.
