FACT CHECK: Are Rich Taxed Less Than Secretaries?
AP via Yahoo News ^ | 20 Sept 2011 | Stephen Olemacher

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama makes it sound like there are millionaires all over America paying taxes at lower rates than their secretaries.

"Middle-class families shouldn't pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires," Obama said Monday. "That's pretty straightforward. It's hard to argue against that."

The data tells a different story. On average, the wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected by the federal government.

Ooops.....AP isn't even buying his BS.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was pressed at a White House briefing on the number of millionaires who pay taxes at a lower rate than middle-income families. He demurred, saying that people who make most of their money in wages pay taxes at a higher rate, while those who get most of their income from investments pay at lower rates.

Well.....knock me over with a feather. You mean people like Buffett?

What's even more duplicitious is the fact a good portion of the tax code was written and implemented during times of Dem congressional majorities.

watch this

in the building civil war planned to destroy our society, obama has become the pitchman to persuade the middle class to align with the “poor”, against the “rich”

the “middle class as victim” strategy is fascinating, and becoming ever more blatant

People like “Joe the plumber” perplex the hell out of these marxists like obama, because he just doesn’t “get” the resistance by middle class or even poor people who are not stirred into envy and anger against “the rich”. The “Messiah is even compelled to beg people to vote for his “bill” (ie, tax the rich) out of “love” for the Messiah. Is this not an astonishing display by a US president????

What will it take to open peoples’ eyes? Busloads of ACORN and SEIU recruits arriving in their neighborhoods and marching up their driveways to demand social justice?

If you’ve been successful by working hard and playing by the rules, just remember that Obama’s goal is to change the rules - because to him the right people weren’t successful. He’s all about changing the outcome by stacking the deck. He has an agenda, driven by erroneous beliefs and resentment.

Liberals always go to the mattresses,i.e. class warfare, because that’s all they have. They’re demogogues at heart, manipulators who exchange OPM for the power/wealth that they crave.

“In his White House address Monday, Obama called on Congress to increase taxes by $1.5 trillion as part of a 10-year deficit reduction package totaling more than $3 trillion. He proposed that Congress overhaul the tax code and impose what he called the “Buffett rule,” named for billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

The rule says, “People making more than $1 million a year should not pay a smaller share of their income in taxes than middle-class families pay.”

You’ve got to admit the rhetoric sounds good, so why oppose the rule and make it look like we’re lining up to screw the poor? If in fact, this almost never really happens, then we’re really not changing anything by adapting the rule. By agreeing with Obama on the grounds that this is what already happens in the real world, we make Obama look like an idiot, because he’s really not proposing changing anything.

Yes, obama is no more than a blatant demagogue and is now funded in his destructive campaign by US taxpayer money.

Why, I bet there is no time to even change the oil in Air Force One between fundraising stops.

The battle brewing is for the heart and soul and loyalty of the middle class. All color and ethnicity aside. This is building to socioeconomic class warfare on a scale I don’t think we have ever experienced. Ayers and Jarret must be orgasmic, if you will excuse the unfortunate visuals.

Check the amount of taxes Obama paid for his 2010 income. He paid about 454K on 1.7 in income. Considering his philosophy on millionaires, why did he take so many deductions to bring his tax rate down to 26 percent? Hypocrite.

When liberals say that the reason that QE has failed is that they didn’t get enough money to spend the first time. It’s stunning and would be funny if they weren’t deadly serious.

The bottom line here on the issue of Taxes and Greed is.
What gives Obama and other liberal Politicians the right to confiscate the disposable income of any and every American Citizen that they deem to "have enough" and then use that confiscate to enrich them selves with cushy Public Service jobs for themselves and their cronies?
Talk about being "Greedy".

The “rich” that pay low rates are trust fund babies and retired people. They pay low rates because they are heavily invested in government bonds that are tax free.

It has been advantageous for these people to be invested in government bonds pay >2% less than corporate bonds or CDs because of the tax incentive.

SO... Is the government going to increase its bond rate to make up for the fact that they are changing the tax rules for their biggest purchasers?

I recently got an email from Jim Messina and Barry Obama about "class warfare" focussing on this very subject.

Here's my reply:
Geez, please! You guys are such economic tards. Go back to the late 19th century when Barry's political economy was in vogue, though, even then, it was just as defective.

I know that if all the income of all the "millionaires and billionaires" were confiscated, it would be enough to run the federal government for a matter of months, if that. So when I hear Barry appealing to the mass of people who are paying little to nothing at all in income or capital gains taxes while getting "benefits" such as food stamps and free medical care like Medicaid against "the wealthy" to gain support for his plan to impose higher taxes on folks making far, far, far less than millions and billions, and promising more loot to his voter base, I know he's engaging in class warfare.

The thrill is gone. The Democrat soda is flat. The mask has come off. The man behind the curtain has been revealed. And what the American people are seeing isn't something as grand as an old man who got lost in his balloon and wound up in Oz mistaken for a wizard. We see a self-deluded relic from the radical sixties playing a political theme that is even more lame than disco. To quote Roy Orbison, "It's over. It's OOOOOOOOOOOVER."

Cushy or not, I realize certain public service jobs are required. What I object to, however, is the gouging of the taxpayer, funding pensions and benefits for people who are no longer peforming public service.

1. Millionaire = $200k per couple per year.
2. Are you familiar with the Alternative Minimum Tax and the fact that it originally only applied to ~150 people total? How does that look to you now?

The rule of law should be the rule of law, not a Marxist hodgepodge of penalties for success and crutches for failure.

Think about it 0bama HAS NOT changed his stated goals one iota during his presidency, meaning he has not grown in the job at all.

Here is the stated goal regarding capital gains taxes in 2008:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpSDBu35K-8

This is all being done NOT to raise revenue to cover his massive spending spree. It's ALL about FAIRNESS. Don't think this won't affect you. Remember capital gains happen when you sell your home , sell a stock or anything else that may have appreciated (you gold bugs take note). People like Buffett will avoid this tax, they'll just move the money overseas. Warren hasn't even paid his taxes from 2003 , so he's not in any hurry to pay more taxes. This is just one more sneak attack on the middle class. It's progressiveism 101, "we're not taxing the middle class, we're taxing the rich". Don't forget the father of modern progressivism, Woodrow Wilson sold the income tax as a tax ONLY on the rich. Any of you people out there feel rich?

Well I’m by no means rich but my wife and I do fall into the category he’s shooting for. I own 33% of the company I work for and I’m a salaried employee of that company. I get hit with a corporation tax and income tax and a capital gains tax, how much more do they want?
