You can't reinvent the burger; you can remake it NEW YORK (AP) — When Wendy's decided to remake its 42-year-old hamburger, the chain agonized over every detail. A pickle chemist was consulted. Customers were quizzed on their lettuce knowledge. And executives went on a cross-country burger-eating tour. [snip]

I plan on trying them out, but have heard from friends that In ‘N’ Out beats them hands down.

I've had In-N-Out, too. I give a slight edge to 5 Guys, but In-N-Out is definitely more affordable. 5 Guys will set you back almost $20 for two healthy appetites.

When you get to Texas, try Dublin Dr Pepper..Not sure if the Chicken Express locales in Dallas still have it as a fountain drink.
Also, gotta try Whataburger. And if you get here soon enough, you can go to the State Fair, and try all the amazing fried stuff..fried beer, fried butter, fried bubblegum..
Also, check out military gun supply in Ft Worth..yeah, I know it’s not food, but this is Texas.

Coca Cola changed its formula a few years ago, making it sweeter. There ensued a public outcry against the change. Coke went back to the original formula calling it Classic Coke. Recently they dropped the Classic name and it’s now Coca Cola again. Don’t know whether it went back to regular cane or beet sugar (which many prefer) as the sweetener instead of the high fructose corn syrup widely used.

In And Out uses freshly peeled potatoes for its fries and fresh, unfrozen meat for its burgers. Burgers and fries are made to order and fresh, fresh, fresh! Get the grilled onions for a perfect burger.

Natural fats such as pork fat are less harmful to your health than the chemically modified fats (hydrogenated, interesterified, etc.) that have been a staple of processed foods and shortenings for decades. As long as it does not add so much to your daily caloric intake that you begin to gain unwanted weight, go ahead and enjoy the bacon sans guilt.

No, modern Coke still uses HFCS by default in the USA, though Mexican Coke and US kosher-for-Passover Coke uses sucrose.

Pepsico has a “Throwback” line of soft drinks today, including Pepsi and Mountain Dew, which appear to use their historic formulas of the sixties which used sucrose.

I’ve found that sucrose based sodas are more satisfying than their modern HFCS counterparts.

Sucrose metabolizes faster and more efficiently than HFCS. That explains a great deal about why people drank gallons of pop 35 years ago and didn’t gain weight like they do today.

Sucrose needs to undergo catalyzed hydrolysis in the digestive tract before it can be absorbed as the glucose and fructose which results. This adds time after ingestion before the associated rise in blood sugar is seen. HFCS is pre-hydrolyzed, can be immediately absorbed, and has more fructose to boot.

Use to go to the Fox Theater or De Anza (the cheaper one) for the air conditioning... of course we were older then and could walk downtown in the afternoon. Have to admit, rarely went to Fox... too much money, but loved the balcony. One time my sister and I raised enough money collecting pop bottles we went there for a matinee which was some kind of gangster movie... City in fear or some such crazy title... it was so boring, but we stayed through it all because we paid our fifty cents.

I use to do a lot of business with Home Savings corporate and the lady I called on hated In'N'out french fries! She loved their burgers, but would go to McDonald's for the fries. (I loved In'N'out fries!)

At the time I was also doing business with In'N'Out back when they were in Baldwin Park..... Had to tell her she was right... she was the customer after all!!!...: ~ ) (shrug).

Just discovered that there is one within 75 mi, that we could try out. My hubbie’s not big on trying new things, but a burger joint might be an easier sell. I’m working on my approach for the next time we’re close.

His favorite response to what would you like for dinner used to be
“ anything that I need a knife, fork and plate” or “ anything that does not come between two pieces of bread”! He’s come a long way in 42 years, but then so have frozen dinners! But then so have I!

I don’t know what they do but Wendy’s burgers really taste a bit like liver to me. They really need to do something about the meat.

You can crinkle cut any pickle, even a proper dill. Just cause they crinkle cut it, doesn’t mean that it’s a bread & butter type. Which I also hate.

In-N-out!!!! Best burgers ever... at a price you can afford in this economy.

In-N-Out remains the best value among the chains discussed. You can still get lunch for between $5 and $6 - the burgers are decently sized and the fries order is huge (If I go with mrs. jimfree when I'm out west we share an order.) If you eat in you have drink refills with that low price.

At the time I was also doing business with In'N'Out back when they were in Baldwin Park....I grew up in the 60s about a mile and a quarter or so from that store. They built the new one on the other side of the 10. Dad still lives at the house in La Puente.

Are the sucrose-sweetened versions calorie free? Or am I thinking of something else?

Wendy’s is the slowest fast food joint on the planet. They will not take another person’s order until the previous one’s order is complete.
