Tea Party Presses Perry on Illegal Immigration
The Texas Tribune ^ | Sept. 19, 2011

Posted on 09/19/2011 6:07:02 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

Tea Party leaders confronted Rick Perry in his own back yard calling on him to use his power as governor to crack down on illegal immigration. JoAnn Fleming, chair of the Tea Party Caucus Advisory Committee of the Texas Legislature said, "The ball is in Gov. Perry's court. He needs to make a decision. He's running out of time." Perry favors giving in-state tuition to certain illegal immigrants which has put him at odds with many Tea Party activists. Ken Emmanuelson, a Dallas Tea Party activist, said Perry should issue an executive order overturning a Texas Department of Public Safety policy that they say has turned Texas into something of a sanctuary state. Tea Party activists are promising to hold Perry's feet to the fire over illegal immigration. Perry has been a vocal foe of a long border wall and said in 2001 he was "intrigued and open" to an amnesty proposal for Mexican workers made by George Bush. Perry's chief opponent, Mitt Romney, vetoed a similar in-state tuition bill when governor of Massachusetts, saying it would provide incentives to illegal immigrants.

Kudos, for stating what I’ve posted a few times before about the fence.

So many others don’t realize the border is in the middle of the Rio Grande and that building a fence on the land on the TX side would take ranchers’ and farmers’ property, as well as cutting them off from a needed water supply.

A fence in Texas is not the answer. Boots on the ground with authorization to shoot is the answer.

Prez Ike and his Operation Wetback deported about 5 million illegals, to clear the way for returning military servicemen to have jobs.

If it was possible to deport millions in the 1950s, then why does everyone say it’s now impossible to deport the probable 25 million illegals now in this country? They keep saying we can’t deport so many, but they never explain why. .....Of course cutting off employment will tend to lead to self-deportation, but that is a drop in the bucket at this time. .....The Dems in charge of the Obama Regime cater to illegals because they want their votes and don’t care about the future of America.

Wrong, your problem is that you do not wish to look at the honest facts about the rino, Perry. And I view him as a big a threat, if not bigger than Obummer. He has no respect for the sovereignty of the united states.

LOL! Thanks for that, as it seems the bash-Perry trolls have been very active on this thread. I believe some/many of them don’t even live in Texas and don’t understand the situation here.

Thanks for another good laugh this morning, EE!

I don’t post often, but I really tire from the constant trashing of Perry and other Conservatives from the dedicated opposition here on FR. I’m not always right, but I sometimes have to express my opinions.

This old man is now going to hit the pillow, as it’s 7am here.

Exactly. I don’t care what Perry says about illegal immigration at this point, his record on it is LOUD and CLEAR.

The property along the ‘river’ is private property, would you like to have the government come take your property to build a fence?

Interstate I-95 runs through some of the most valuable real estate in the country, I wonder how they got that built? /sarcasm

This is totally stupid. US I-95 is about three football fields wide and runs through the most expensive real estate in the country. How in the heck did that ever get built? /sarcasm

PS: stop with the desert wasteland is too valuable crap. You sound like a hayseed.

Where the fence works, it only works when patrolled and maintained by people. We have the river - a moat - that functions as well as a fence would work.

What we need are enough agents to be available to detect and catch invaders, as well as to make sure that those agents are properly armed and otherwise equipped to protect our border from the drug runners as well as the coyotes and the illegals they bring in.

Don’t forget that there really are no “Tea Party leaders.” We in the Tea Party are a very loose group, organized around the theme that we are “Taxed Enough Already.” I seriously question whether this theme is consistent with a call for an expensive special session for a single issue.

In addition, there are no “sanctuary cities” in Texas. We have individual police chiefs and city officials who discourage law enforcement checks for citizenship status. Is it appropriate for those of us who believe in local, small government to over-ride local officials by an Executive Order or even legislative action that can’t garner wide spread support??

In this case, Governor Rick Perry put the “sanctuary cities” legislation on the emergency list for the Regular Session that began in January and then he brought it back during the Special Session called in June for the Budget Bill. During both the Regular and Special Sessions, the Governor brought pressure to bear on the Senate and the House to pass legislation. He called attention to the widow of the Houston police officer who was killed by an illegal alien. The Senate passed the Bill during the Special Session, but the House did not.

Another problem is that the so-called “leaders” can’t get their act together. During the Special Session, the “leaders” sent conflicting messages, with disagreement on the language in the Bill that had been cleared by Attorney General Greg Abbott. Take a look at this article from the same publication, “Sanctuary Cities Cause Rift.”

"Entrance requirements apply equally."

I'll have what he's drinking waiter.

Do you honestly believe that? Honestly?

There are only so many seats to go around. The American families have been paying taxes to support those schools. I've already posted elsewhere about the purpose of non-resident tuition.

If given a choice between a racist, silver spoon-fed white American student, or the "poor illegal kid" who's parent snuck across the border, who do you think they're going to choose?

Sheesh, the reality has been out there for years, the AA quotas have been denying white American kids seats in classrooms for years, now they have one more demographic to compete against.

Interesting comments. There couldn’t possibly be others who are just downright curious about Perry, who are still vetting this guy out? I’m just supposed to trust what you say from behind your keyboard? How do I know you aren’t some piece DU trash?

I’m quite curious about the so-called “most conservative state” in the union passing an ILLEGAL alien DREAM Act and having a Republican presidential contender signing it into law vs. vetoeing the thing and making the legislature own it as they should.

Where’s the love man? I live in CA, they’re ramming damn near the same down our throats here and conservatives are fighting it. Yet I’m supposed to believe that because this is TX, that makes everything ok? That Texan crap don’t stink?

I am well within my rights to challenge this legislation as is any other FReeper and for you two Perry supporters to take on a perceived air of superiority and begin to demean those who question this as “paulnutz” demonstrates that your candidate can’t stand the scrutiny.

Oh, I see. Asking questions to get information is bashing Perry and makes one an anti-Perry troll.

You want to dispel the misinformation, then put it out there.

You were doing ok for a few posts there, interesting information. Now, not interested in what you have to say if you’re so willing to lower yourself into the DU playground calling people names and support others calling people liars.

You damage your own credibility by smearing inquisitive FReepers with your broad brush.

I've read this entire thread and couldn't help but notice that the liberal Perry supporters ignored your post about Slick-Rick saying he was for amnesty. Even the liberal who said Perry didn't want amnesty, the very one you were responding to, ignored it entirely.

These people don't want to address the truth because, when it comes to to it, they can't defend it -- that couldn't be more clear.
