COUNCIL BLUFFS, IowaGov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) blitzed through Iowa Friday with the swagger of a rock star, elevating his high-octane campaign with a series of stage-managed campaign events.
As the only sitting governor pursuing the GOP nomination for president, Perrys Texas-sized entourage and personality project an aura of authority that other candidates envy. His style, though, may risk alienating Iowans accustomed to lower key campaigning and more time for back-and-forth over issues.
For example, Perry traveled to campaign events throughout Iowa in a 22-seat Gulfstream IV jet owned by Wells Fargo Equipment Finance, Inc., a subsidiary of the banking conglomerate. The plane has ferried Perry since at least Sept. 12, when it left Austin, Texas for Tampa., Fla., where Perry participated in the CNN-Tea Party Express debate. Perrys use of corporate jets, a perk most other candidates lack, allowed Perry to cram five public events into four days. But the propriety of jetting around the Hawkeye State for retail political events in a corporate jet could crimp Perrys populist touch among fickle, frugal Iowans

I am starting now to dislike Perry before the rush. If ever there was a poster child for a politician that will do or say anything to be elected!
The biggest fib he would have us believe is this...while he was a Democrat campaigning for Gore in 88, he now claims that he voted for Reagan.
I for one did not just fall off a freakin turnip truck...yes I will say it...you lie (Perry)
“It’s not unusual for politicians to regularly take planes on tours and then board a campaign bus to arrive at a stop, but in an era in which private jets carry a special sort of stigma,”

“Its a two-hour drive between Ames and Cedar Rapids, two key Iowa cities for Republican presidential candidates competing in the state that will host the first balloting next year. Ron Paul flew by private jet. “

“Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney shelled out more than $5 million in campaign cash over the past three months, including blowing $80,000 on hotel rooms in Las Vegas, $50,000 on a security squad and $125,000 on private jets despite a pledge to scale back on luxury travel, new campaign filings show.”

“Mr. McCains cash-short campaign gave itself an advantage by using a corporate jet owned by a company headed by his wife, Cindy McCain, according to public records. For five of those months, the plane was used almost exclusively for campaign-related purposes, those records show.”

“That message, however, is on a collision course with Cain’s own spending habits, which include $900-a-night hotels, five-figure private-jet rides, and chauffeurs awaiting him when he arrives in the next city on his uphill climb toward the White House.”

Sucess? is having your own campaign pay for the thrills and frills....not the Likes of Wells Fargo.
That’s just owing.....lol
Yeah, Bill White, in the last TX Governor's election promised if he became governor, he'd live in a double wide trailer. Apparently that worked out real well for Mr. White as a campaign strategy.
Correction...Perry now claims he voted for Reagan twice...that`s right Reagan had such a big impact on him that he worked for Al Gore
Bring on the lie detector!!!!
Whether it’s private enterprise success or campaign fund raising success or simply being the governor of a mega state - it’s still success and the attitude that resents it is the same attitude that resents all success.
The corporate jet talking point is a favorite of the left based on class envy - and for conservatives to resent it is not intellectually consistent.
Now, if there’s a quid pro quo that is specific and can be shown, that’s another story. But this unseemly resentment of him having a fancy jet is just pure class envy.
If Perry campaign pays for this, I have no problem with it.
But, if Perry is getting this as a free "perk", then I have a MAJOR problem with this, and so should anyone that is against Corporate Crony Capitalism.
Uh....Perryola is battlin a crony persona...if it sticks and to me it should given all that I have read....there is no one to blame but himself.
As for my thought.....u can’t change stupid.
There was a lot of them. Do you think Reagan won 49 states in '84 with just Republicans?
Mail.
If you dont understand why.....theres more problems in Texas than I ever realized. .... winoneforthegipper
It looks like winoneforthegipper has swallowed Obama's class warfare agitprop, hook, line and sinker.
Winoneforthegipper believes that "hometown folks" are so stupid that they believe that spending $1.1 million for a Canadian bus for a photo-op (while you actually fly between stops) makes you better than leasing a small jet for a few days in order to get X number of people to Cities A, B and C for the least possible cost.
Winoneforthegipper does not seem to know the difference between simple economics and being a phony demagogue.
Winoneforthegipper probably believes that Sarah Palin's "Bus Tours" actually involve riding a bus around the country.
This is what even other Palin supporters think of such attempts at class warfare, winoneforthegipper: "GAG ALERT!"

You are absolutely right...HOWEVER how many Reagan Democrats went from supporting Reagan to working for Al Gore? And then after working for Gore in 88 claims to have also voted for Reagan that same time as well.
I say bring on the lie detector, I challenge the statements that he ever voted for Reagan!
Cronyism is a totally separate issue from class envy. I agree Perry has some baggage there and it may sink him given the fact that crony capitalism is going to be a major campaign issue (as it should be given GE, GM, Solyndra, etc...). As conservatives, we should stand against anything that perverts the free market and anything that raises government spending — and crony capitalism does both.
But from what I’ve seen from a few on this thread, there is definitely some pure class envy going on. That’s not the same thing. And that’s not what should ever drive conservatives.
Dude....
Did you go to washington dc for the first Tea Party march?
NO?
Then shut the hell up.
So then tell us how Social Security is NOT a Ponzi scheme.
Hahaha!!!
You’re not denying SS is a Ponzi scheme, are you? It darned sure is a Ponzi scheme and thanks to Perry for having the guts to tell the truth.
