Canadian Commentator: The Press Gave America 'An Untried, Unknown,' 'Incompetent Figure As President' By Noel Sheppard Created 09/18/2011 - 9:09pm

Maybe what America's press really need is a Canadian television commentator to explain how atrocious their coverage of Barack Obama has been since the moment he tossed his named into the presidential ring in February 2007.

Although they may not be familiar with CBC's Rex Murphy, they should certainly heed the marvelous piece he wrote for the National Post Saturday entitled "The Media’s Love Affair With a Disastrous President":

As the bad economic news continues to emanate from the United States — with a double-dip recession now all but certain — a reckoning is overdue. American journalism will have to look back at the period starting with Barrack [sic] Obama’s rise, his assumption of the presidency and his conduct in it to the present, and ask itself how it came to cast aside so many of its vital functions. In the main, the establishment American media abandoned its critical faculties during the Obama campaign — and it hasn’t reclaimed them since.

Murphy then walked through some of the press's most egregious examples of malpractice:

Gliding past Obama's pretentions Ignoring his arrogance Not reporting his gaffes Side-stepping his connection to Rev. Jeremiah Wright Trashing Hillary Clinton Burning Republicans Ransacking Sarah Palin and her family

"Palin, in particular, stands out as Obama’s opposite in the media’s eyes," wrote Murphy. "As much as they genuflected to the one, they felt the need to turn rotweiler toward the other."

After offering further examples of so-called journalists' unforgivable obsession with attacking the former governor of Alaska, Murphy gave his strongest criticism.

"As a result, the press gave the great American republic an untried, unknown and, it is becoming more and more frighteningly clear, incompetent figure as President."

Murphy crescendoed to his spot on conclusion: "To the degree the press neglected its function as watchdog and turned cupbearer to a styrofoam demigod, it is a partner in the flaws and failures of what is turning out to be one of the most miserable performances in the modern history of the American presidency."

Almost on cue, "American Conservative's" Jim Pinkerton observed a few hours later on Saturday's "Fox News Watch" that some of Obama's enablers are starting to get it.

"There’s a strange thing happening in the media which is, I think, liberalism has sort of concluded that Obama is kind of a turkey, and they're sort of trying to distance themselves from him."

They might try, but too many observers know the truth: the press aided and abetted this national disgrace, and they're going to have a lot to answer for in the coming years regardless of how much they try to distance themselves from the current White House resident.

Hopefully more members of the foreign press will assist those of us in the States that have been sending out warning signals since February 2007.

Maybe with their help, the media malpractice will be totally acknowledged by the guilty parties, and America will never have to witness such a disgraceful episode again.

A conservative can dream, can't he?

>Canadians are worried about what is happening in our White House.<

Actually...canadians do not care what happens to America. canadians, in general relish the fact that Americans voted for a leftist president and America, as a superpower is being brought to it’s knees by this usurper.

In school even, we were taught that Americans are evil. Unfortunately, it’s called “the canadian inferiority complex”. It’s akin to being a poor neighbor and your next door neighbor who is rich, is now losing his big home. If you knew how canadians really viewed Americans, you will be in shock..

I’m originally from canadastan and grew up on Rex Murphisms. He’s a libertarian. Unfortunately, he’s affiliated with the CBC...one of the most anti-American broadcast companies in the world. You should watch their news shows. They make Al jazeera look like Fox news

Murphy is a foe of AGW, but has run for the Trudeau Liberals in Nfld.

Are you saying that he bends to the CBC position sometimes? Could you give some examples?

CNN’s ratings are about the worse there are on cable. It’s pathetically bad. Yet there they are.

The media will not change - not one bit - until the NY Times, CNN, MSNBC etc...go out of business. Until then, they have no reason to change that does not already exist today.

Well, Canadians can just stay the hell out of our country.

We should refuse to buy anything they make if they are that hostile to Americans.

We should close our northern border and make sure no Canadians sneak into the U.S. to seek timely medical care they are unable to find in their superior nation through their superior health-care system.

Rex is indeed a commentator for CBC news. However he wrote this for the National Post newspaper which while no longer as conservative as it was founded by Conrad Black is still a better read than other unmentionable papers. I never watch the CBC news so I cannot comment on their current way of doing things but I am pretty sure you are spot on. There is a minor debate going on up here about the money CBC gets from the govt. I doubt much will change but with a Harper majority who knows. It would be an interesting race to see which subsidy ever gets cut first PBS/NPR or the CBC.

Yup. During the 2003 Iraq invasion, he blasted every American..every American he could think of in a rant at the end of the 6 PM telecast. From George W Bush to those “yankees” who voted for him. You have to understand that anti-Americanism was thru the roof...not like it is today which is back to normal levels.

I remember it vividly. Due to old age, he’s mellowed down..

I worked with a bunch of lads from Calgary all over the world in the oilfields. Those boys are just Texans with a funny accent. They work hard, play hard, and hold their own in a fight.

Oh? You weren’t there back when Martin was still the PM and one parliament member point blank asked the CBC president..HOW MUCH MONEY DOES HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA RAKE IN?

The CBC guy refused to answer. Molson won’t even say in public how much it pays to the telecasts which I surmise has been in the half billion for 1 season. And nothing trickles back to the taxpayers.

I would not be shocked. I lived close to the border for 10 years and watched Canadian tv. They are very prickly about national identity several different ways, but they can generally agree to loathe the US.

That's why I will never spend another vacation dime there.

Alberta is Stephen Harper, the Conservative Party and the separatist movement of western canada’s “headquarters”. AB is I believe, the only province to give Ottawa the middle finger when it comes to equalization payments aka “mafia shakedown so Quebec won’t secede” money...

Have you seen ‘Little Mosque on the Prairie’? The CBC-produced show which mocks Americans daily? That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Canada’s “right” is pretty much equivalent to the last vestiges of those remaining not full-on Communist Democrats.....Evan Bayh......Joseph Liebermann.......Ben Nelson.....etc. Hillary would be a soft Liberal to them. Bernie Sanders, the CBC, and Debbie Wasserface Schmuck would be solid NDP’ers for them.

There is currently a minor debate going on. How much the CBC gets from the government is known. It is over a billion dollars. How they spend that billion plus isn’t known. Whether the CBC deserves that billion plus a year is the debate. It is minor in the grand scheme of things but it is percolating.

Well - ACTUALLY - This Canadian DOES care what happens to America and Americans. This Canadian is sick at heart that this Abomanation was elected as President with all his left-wing czars. This Canadian knows that Canadian schools DO NOT teach that Americans are evil. This Canadian is proud to know and like Americans, and knows they are the salt of the earth. This Canadian also knows that you are NOT a good Canadian, an average Canadian, or a thinking Canadian. Stop spouting your anti-American nonsense and go and get a life.

Now would be a perfect time for cutting funding to the CBC with Harper and the CP in charge of Parliament. If the Ceeb is generating millions just from Hockey Night’, then CTV, a private broadcast network has a major legit beef.

Might as well cut off the French CBC channels. No one in western canada watches them. Honestly, I only watch it to brush up on my Fwench and watch those French/Quebecois movies where the woman is always naked.

I have family, friends, business acquaintances in the U.S.A. I was born in Canada, and love the ties we have with America and the wonderful American people. Please do not assume that Canadians who spout anti-American rhetoric speak for all Canadians - they do not, just as I’m assuming that you do not speak for all Americans with your anti-Canadian rhetoric.

The federal and taxation system is different in Canuckistan from what we know and care about in the States but I understand that’s a big part of it. Of huge Provincial concern is the amount of money they pay to Ottawa versus what they receive back in Federal funding. The Prairie and Western provinces seem to send a lot eastward that they don’t get back to the west (lot’s of money spent on pacifying Quebec) and that imbalance screws with their finances. So many Federal Canadian programs (Medicare, or Canadian “socialist medicine”) dependent upon provincial returns to support.

Albert has been the Texas/Colorado to think of it in U.S. terms. Saskatchewan after them.....they are like a Nebraska/Iowa. B.C. is California and Washington state all rolled into one. Manitoba is Minnesota and Wisconsin. Ontario is like Ohio and Pennsylvania. Quebec is, well, like Mexico. The Atlantics are just an assortment of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island. Small population and small power to effect national politics.

“Stop spouting your anti-American nonsense and go and get a life.”

LOL How is it anti-Americanism? I’m just educating American Freepers that kanadastan ain’t the promised land that most Americans envision it to be. Get this... I was trying to escape mandatory socialized healthcare from kanadastan and Obama makes it law here.

Correct. It’s called “Equalization payments”. The provinces pay to Ottawa a sort of...mafia payment and they are supposed to get something back in return.

But here’s the funny part that no American realizes and what really binds canada as a nation. The equalization payment’ is actually shakedown money or bribe money from the Feds (Ottawa) as a “tribute” to Quebec so they will not secede.

Have you ever noticed why French and English are 2 languages you first see when you enter canada but our parliament and money (the Queen of England) are British-based? There ya have it..

Yep.

When my SIL was on loan to the Royal Canadian Air Force, (flight instructor on their Orions) in Nova Scotia for 3 years - he and my daughter and their kids absolutely LOVED it. The people were super friendly and loved them as Americans - still begging them to come back.

And actually, they are thinking it might be a good idea - maybe settle up there and get dual citizenship.

In my visits up there and to PEI, I never ran across ANYONE who didn't treat us like ‘natives.”

And we should NEVER forget what they did for us and their support after 9-11.

Except for the French Quebecers - most Canadians are very like us.
