>The federal and taxation system is different in Canuckistan from what we know and care about in the States but I understand thats a big part of it. Of huge Provincial concern is the amount of money they pay to Ottawa versus what they receive back in Federal funding. The Prairie and Western provinces seem to send a lot eastward that they dont get back to the west (lots of money spent on pacifying Quebec) and that imbalance screws with their finances. So many Federal Canadian programs (Medicare, or Canadian socialist medicine) dependent upon provincial returns to support.<
Correct. It’s called “Equalization payments”. The provinces pay to Ottawa a sort of...mafia payment and they are supposed to get something back in return.
But here’s the funny part that no American realizes and what really binds canada as a nation. The equalization payment’ is actually shakedown money or bribe money from the Feds (Ottawa) as a “tribute” to Quebec so they will not secede.
Have you ever noticed why French and English are 2 languages you first see when you enter canada but our parliament and money (the Queen of England) are British-based? There ya have it..
Oh, most certainly.
While we in the U.S. view Canada as a “socialist” country there are many aspects of Canadian Confederation we don’t take into account. If we American’s had to pay a state, i.e. New York, to stay with us and support the Union..............I have no doubt the crap would have hit the fan decades ago. I do realize that what keeps Canada together as a nation is the distribution of tax revenues as opposed to some serious nationalistic heritage. We see their “national” health care system as a single entity while it is clearly not.
We Americans ponder the semi-routine referendums that Alberta and Saskatchewan have regarding Confederation and State-hood and say “whoa, wait..........another state?”
No, I get it entirely. Canada, as we know, is the North American country that is not part of the U.S. and so many within those borders will do anything to not be a part of the American association. The money’s too good to tether themselves to another country which might have other nationa goals or policies. Yeah. I get it..
