......One was born into a privileged family in a tony Michigan suburb; the other, onto a flat expanse of West Texas dirt with no indoor plumbing. One spent his youth tooling around his fathers car factory; the other, selling Bibles door-to-door so he could afford to buy a car. One excelled at Harvard University, simultaneously earning law and business degrees and swiftly climbing the corporate ladder; the other, his hope of becoming a veterinarian dashed when he flunked organic chemistry at Texas A&M University, joined the Air Force. [Perry graduated from A&M]
Where Mitt Romney is obedient and cautious, Rick Perry is bombastic and spontaneous. If they had attended the same high school, they probably would have hung out at opposite ends of the hallway. Their relationship today is said to be frosty, if there is one at all.
In every single possible way, they come from different worlds, said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, who advised Romney in his 2008 race but is neutral this time. You can see the playbook pretty clearly here: its populist against patrician; its rural Texas steel against unflappable Romney coolness; conservative versus center-right establishment; Texas strength versus Romneys imperturbability; Perrys simplicity versus Romneys flexibility.
.... Romney is campaigning as a steady, capable grown-up who can fix anything that needs fixing; Perry, as a passionate, principled leader who can channel the ire of a frustrated electorate.
The twin forces within the Republican Party are neatly manifested in the two candidates. Romney represents both the partys upper-crust establishment and the state Massachusetts that for so long has been the GOPs boogeyman. Perry represents the angry grassroots that are giving the party new energy and he personifies the state Texas that for a generation has been the GOPs soul.........

Why is Romney even in politics? There is no possible way for him to win the Nom. Get lost Willard.
Uh, no.
Your pusing of Statism, and socialized medicine are beyond the PALE.
Pushing RINOs and their agendae is beyond the PALE.
You were a big-time supporter of Tommy Thompson in 2008, and yet you lecture others about supporting RINOs? That’s rich.
To people who are familiar with both over years of exposure, know you don't know what you're talking about...a fact, not a talking point.
I see Romney as a complete opportunist with no core values that I can see other than his own power-hungry ego.
So between those two it's a no-brainer.
Would I like to see Palin as President? You betcha. But I just don't see her getting in the race, and I see a very tough road to winning the White House if she did enter. She has been thoroughly Quayled by the MSM, the Dems, the establishment RINOs and even a motley assortment of some of the right who for whatever reason have an axe to grind against her.
And now that Perry is starting to be suject to the same kind of unprincipled attacks that Palin has been subject to for three years, well, it's amazing how some of those same Palin-bashers suddenly get 11th-Commandment religion.
I am in favor of addressing Perry's conservative failings so that maybe, just maybe, he won't drag all of them to DC, but we all have to be wary of the liberal hatchet jobs that will come against any kind of front-runner threat to Obama.
"Context" is sooo 19th Century, Clairity.
Back in the days of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates, each candidate spoke for a total of 90 minutes. Context was explained and positions were explained.
Today, it is all about knee-jerk red meat and Sound Bites in 30 Seconds:
"Where's the beef?"
"TARP"
"Fence = Good. No Fence = Bad"
"He said heartless!"
You know who would lose this Sound Bites in 30 Seconds contest?
The State of Israel.
Israel, like Perry, knows that wasting resources on a Fence in the middle of the desert is rather stupid. ..... And the Israelis are not even giving away Rio Grande riverfront property if they build a Fence in the Negev Desert.
And, so it went. Day after day.
In the end, Sarah Palin kept teasing and teasing and teasing her supporters ...... until the Elections started without her.
Perry was "Borked" and that, boys and girls, is how people like editor-surveyor made it possible for a liberal like Mitt Romney to win the GOP nomination.
Wish that applied to Palin supporters.
Since the talk of the Presidential races started, even Palin supporters who hinted that maybe Sarah Palin was not 100% perfect in every way have been attacked by Palinistas like pork chops in a pit bull kennel.
"PDS! PDS! PDS! PDS! PDS! PDS! PDS! PDS!"
Nice try but there is really no difference between the two.
Perry was not Borked, that is reserved for the honorable. Perry was stripped naked, down to his record, which stood on solid wet sand in a raging river.
Good riddance; an evil opportunist is never an opportunity for good.
>> “they do seem to be much similar.” <<
.
Both Illuminist masonic types, which is a total disqualifier.
