At a time when state spending reductions were used to help offset a multibillion-dollar revenue shortfall, taxpayers were billed for more than $294,000 in security detail expenses for out-of-state trips by Gov. Rick Perry or his wife, according to records released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Destinations included the Bahamas in January for a family vacation and trips to Amsterdam, Madrid and New York by Anita Perry alone - visits that Perry spokeswoman Allison Castle said were for economic development.

How much did the trips Obama took cost the US taxpayers?

Perry spent $294,096 on security and Obama spent $10,000,000 on vacations since taking office.

Btw, sfgate is a liberal rag.

Do you have a candidate to pump up on this forum or are you here to help Obama. You sound like a Huntman guy, let’s hear something good about your boy.

These are only the travel expenses since his reelection last November. Perry also attended the Bilderberg conference in Istanbul but that trip isn’t listed.

Errata.

Cost of Perry's security team to stay secret for 18 months

Court rules Perry security records can stay secret

Some examples, seems the public sector pays very well for overtime.

Gov. Rick Perry's Asia trip security cost $129K

"Officers who protect Gov. Rick Perry on out-of-state trips cost taxpayers more than $129,000 for his weeklong trip to Asia in June, according to figures obtained by The Associated Press on Monday."

"The biggest taxpayer expense category for the security officers was airfare, amounting to $34,339. Hotel bills totaled $20,202. Their base pay total was $24,222 and overtime totaled $22,769."

We have DSS that handles security in foreign countries, why the hell are Texas DPS going over with him anyway! What they hell to they know about the local security issues!

$1 million security tab for Perry trips

"The actual security tab for 2004-2010 is higher than the $928,477.71 revealed in records provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which includes the Executive Protection Bureau, for trips made by the Perrys together or separately.

That's because the security cost couldn't be obtained for five additional foreign trips made in 2006-2007 by Perry or his wife Anita. DPS said it routinely destroys travel records after three years. Expenses for older trips included in the tally had been previously obtained by the Express-News/Chronicle."

Rick Perry's cost for leaving Las Vegas

"The cost for his security detail for the overnight trip - overtime, hotel, airfare, rental cars - was $12,321, according to documents just released by the Department of Public Safety."

FREEPER NO DEMS POSTED: " My Governor, Rick Perry, is the light-weight everyone is going orgasmic over. It won't be long before people see what a dolt he is, who doesn't have the moxie or the smarts to kick a** in a debate. Not to mention all of Perry's corrupt baggage. Those of us in Texas who've been around during his 22 years as a Professional Politician, know that if nominated, Obama will have another 4 years in the White House. Perry's skeletons haven't even begun to come out of the closet. "

One is a socialist elitist, the other is a crony elitist. Both are poisonous for our future. Choose your venom. I choose neither.

If Perry is the GOP establishment offering, as he seems to be, at least for the moment, then the GOP establishment can go to Helsinki. I’m passing on socialism, and cronyism. We have better from which to choose.

Forget Perry and Romney. Demand a red blooded conservative. Enough of this crap.

And yet some rant about Sarah Palin’s piddly couple thousand dollars for taking her daughters on a trip to NYC on official business? With no security detail?

Give me a break, if Perry had to govern under Alaskan Law, he would have been impeached and imprisoned.

As many jobs as Perry has brought to Texas as a result of many of those trips, I’d say dollar for dollar he’s in the black.

This sounds like the argument about his rent after some liberal fool burned down the governor’s mansion. I guess people think the governor is supposed to live in a shack, entertain dignitaries in a shack, house his security detail in a shed in the back yard. Just a bunch of naive, short-sighted people.

But Obama’s International Self-aggrandizement Tour could have purchased 1 F-22 Raptor for each day abroad.
