Federal authorities seized more than 1,200 firearms and nearly 2 million rounds of ammunition when they raided New Deal Shooting Sports, a family-run gun shop south of Deming, last month as part of a multi-agency investigation into illegal gun sales and smuggling.
The tally of weapons seized was laid out in search warrant documents filed this week in federal court after the warrants were executed on the gun shop owners home and shop between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2. The accounting of weapons and ammunition filled nearly 100 pages.
Affidavits for the warrants also describe conversations in which confidential informants made clear that the weapons being bought were headed to Mexico for use in the drug wars there.
Also seized were four vehicles, $125,000 in cash and 11 ammunition cans with gold and silver that have yet to be valued.
Federal agents last month arrested Rick Reese, 55, his wife Terri Reese, 48, and sons Ryin, 24, and Remington, 19, who are accused of conspiring to falsify paperwork recording gun sales, to launder the sale proceeds and to smuggle weapons into Mexico.
A federal indictment alleged that last year, Ryin Reese sold 18 weapons to an individual who had the weapons smuggled into Mexico where they ended up in the hands of drug cartel members.
Several weapons sold by New Deal to a straw buyer a person who buys a gun on behalf of someone else in violation of federal law were later recovered in Mexico, according to an affidavit filed by a Department of Homeland Security agent. Those weapons included an AK-47-type weapon recovered in Sinaloa, Mexico, in July 2010 and other handguns recovered in Ciudad Juárez in January, February and March.

Irony, thy name is BATFE. Well, more like hypocrisy, thy name is BATFE.
Anyone surprised? He's a freekin COMMIE fer cryin out LOUD!
“Don’t know if this was related to Fast and Furious or if this guy was just doing this completely on his own. “
Given that we have the sleaziest and most would be felons evah in the White House, methinks this latest arrest smells very (hmmmm, what’s a good alternate word for feces?....oh yeah) it smells very Obama-y.
A doubling down by those who brought you F&F, et. al.?
My thoughts as well.
Who knew?
I was thinking te same thing.
They reported all of these weapons making it sound like a great raid, but the fact is that gun shops have weapons and ammunition, It’s what they do.
I don’t know what is normal for a gun shop, but I suspect one weapon gets one page ,making the page count sound abnormally high.
Holder’s crew have just created a distraction from their own fast and furious illegal activities. Expect wide reporting on the NM gun shop bust.
...........well, now the same gun toting agents need to get on a plane and go to Washington and arrest Holder and Obama and charge them with the same thing.................
Along the way, they might arrest a few (or a whole bunch) of their own.
so let’s see... thats that many less weapons for us, meanwhile holder delivers a few thou more to mexicans and their muslim guests
nothing to see here
If the store wasn’t participating in fast and furious, they found out that the government doesn’t like competition.
Likely the ATF used a criminal to con a 22 year old likely by acting like a braggart.
This is another one of those Fed cases that will take forever to get to trial while crumbling to dust along the way.
The government really hates competition, don’t they.
Looks like somebody forgot to make the customers spell out the name of the state.
Not enough here to know quite what was up- BATFE is obviously still sending informants and strawmen into gunshops in hopes of painting a bad picture of FFLs. Trying to cloud over the egregious stuff they did under F&F, I would guess.
IF there are shady dealers they deserve to be shut down, but the shadiest operators may well be the “authorities” these days...
Isn’t Deming in Mexico afterall?
It’s going to be interesting to see how many of these firearms and how much of the ammo the feds send to their pals in the Mexican drug cartels.
Ok...why don’t they arrest themselves? Didn’t they too traffic as many weapons, if not more, to Mexican druglords?
I have been through Deming many times, and it does seem like a waypoint for immigrant traffic. Lots of cheap motels.
