Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Manhattan's financial district on Saturday in a largely peaceful protest aimed at drawing attention to the role powerful financial interests played in wreaking havoc on America's economy.

Modeled on the "Arab Spring" uprisings that swept through Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and other countries this year, Occupy Wall Street is a "leaderless resistance movement" orchestrated through Twitter, Facebook and other social media tools. The Twitter hashtag #OccupyWallStreet lit up Saturday with coordination messages and solidarity tweets.

Interesting, mostly white people? Could it be that ‘Holders People’ understand this pathetic little outburst is really harmful to obama and decided it wasn’t in their interest to take part?

That mystique is what drew Josh Dworning, a 20-year-old college student, to shell out $300 for a 24-hour train ride from Florida to New York.

"I heard about the protest through StumbleUpon, and I just really agreed that there's widespread discontent with the banks and corporations," Dworning said. "I'm no crazy radical, just a student who believes in something."

A student who believes in something is protesting, coincidentally he just flushed $300 down the drain.

agreed- they made this out as though there would be riots, thousands, etc...if criminal liberal media is claiming hundreds it was more likely dozens...

good to see the anger in the thread though- we will need it to repel and counter-protest these morons moving forward...

Sounds like a great person to organize an “Arab Spring” in New York, huh?

We really need a live thread on this subject. I don’t have a clue how one goes about that. There are some interesting connections coming out of this that need to be shone the light on.

There`s been a definite shift in terms of the young voters` affection for Obama, and this is evidence of that. Those who truly mean all of their anti-corporate stuff know Obama is a shill for his corporate contributors, while the others will only go to a `day of rage` if there`s a cool band playing and partying going on.

The Tea Party events are the ones where true grassroots folks gather. Silliness like this can`t draw the way it used to without Eddie Vedder or someone to bring in the big numbers. It`s tough to be anti-establishment when your life is about the Internet, computer games and network TV shows, and you`re in college hoping to WORK for a big corporation someday and earn big bucks.

That’s true, because US students are (still) different from European students. There’s a reality check.

One of the reasons that these “occupations” and downtown riots have been able to get going in Europe is that most young people there basically live on government benefits of one kind or another (not to mention the fact that they virtually all live at mom’s house until the age of about 40) and therefore don’t have to worry about working. What has annoyed them is the suggestion that they might actually have to work someday.

I don't think the Arab Spring uprisings included drumming and lunch breaks.

They are in a weird leader/crowd response phase now. Someone says something, the crowd repeats word for word.

It’s like a weird church service for brain dead hippies.

They are actually paranoid that secret government arsonists are in the crowd to destroy stuff to make them look bad.

Reporting again about live feed:

They have come back together, in the dark, can’t tell where exactly. But they are doing some kind of group speak activity called “stack assembly.” A person takes the mic and says something, and the crowd repeats what he says. It doesn’t matter what the person says, it could be I’ve got to go to the bathroom, but the group has to repeat it back. Every person who holds the mic must start with the words, “I propose...”

It looks like about 300 or so college students at this point. They’re trying to figure out where they are going to camp for the night. They’ve been thrown out of the privately owned property. (LOL) But they can stay on the sidewalks. :-)

One guy is saying that “our constitution was inspired by the Magna Carta, and we today are again being inspired by the Spanish. We are together creating a new constitution that will be ever evolving, just as we are right now...” the live feed went dead at that point.

Now they are taking a straw poll to see where the majority wants to sleep. Someone just said that it was legal to sleep on the sidewalk as long as they didn’t obstruct the whole sidewalk, and as long as they do not build a structure. And parks close at 10pm.

Man! I have to say, it takes a group of 300 “stack assembling” a long time to figure out where to sleep! This is why I can’t be a socialist...I just don’t want to be like everybody else and do things all one way! I’d already have my blanket and be camped out under a bush somewhere. Good grief!! They’ve been working on this for two hours!! Apparently, they have learned that can’t sleep within 10 ft. of a bank, either.

It appears they have decided that those who don’t get arrested tonight will meet back at wall street at 10am.

Breaking....it was just announced that the “private property owner” may let them occupy this property as long as they are peaceful. They all cheered loudly at this announcement.

s/Isn’t it helpful that corporate America came through for the revolutionaries to continue chanting against them?/s

So, on they go ranting about how the banks, capitalism, etc. has oppressed them...and someone just said, mark my words...buy physical silver. Now there is some sidelines arguments over the merits of silver as opposed to gold. Ha!Ha! They are killing me!!!

Well, that is all I have time for tonight. Hope someone else will decide to follow this and keep up with it. If this does “spread” this initial information will be useful.

Here is something for them to protest ...

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/63728.html

LightSquared, whose majority owner is an investment fund run by Democratic donor Philip Falcone.

Last year, a popular financial blog named him one of the worst hedge-fund managers of 2010.

Within days of finalizing his SkyTerra purchase and meeting with White House technology officials, Falcone and his wife each cut a $30,400 check to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Obama invested $90,000 in SkyTerra in 2005.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. is also involved with the payment TO the Democratic Senate Committee through Falcones wife.

The only people who were involved in the process in preparation for the hearing included the Department of Defense, the White House, and the Office Management and Budget

The White House confirmed that its Office of Management and Budget suggested changes to the general’s testimony.

Gen. William Shelton, head of the Air Force Space Command, told House members in a classified briefing earlier this month that he was pressured to change prepared congressional testimony in a way that would favor a large company funded by Philip Falcone, the major Democratic donor.

This is a pattern of the White House improperly pressuring people at agencies involving decisions that affect companies tied to donors and fundraisers.

The FCC’s fast tracking of LightSquared raises questions about whether the government was rushing this project at the expense of all kinds of other things, including national security and everyone who uses GPS, from agriculture to emergency medical technicians.

LightSquared is getting valuable wireless spectrum on the cheap, while its competitors like AT&T and Verizon are spending billions to build out their networks.

The Obama FCC took the lead in intervening on the donor, billionaire hedge fund manster Philip Falcone’s, behalf and granting his company called LightSquared one of those coveted Obama waivers from existing law.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, is a longtime basketball buddy of Obamas’.

Obamas’ operatives are the largest crooks America has seen in a very long time.

They’re SELLING access for Campaign money.

The reverse statement is revealing:
