Meanwhile, Bachman has taken somewhere north of $140,000 from pharmaceutical companies. Those donors include Abbott Labs, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Novartis, Eli Lilly and Bayer. Yet, not a dollar of all that pharma money, from such a wide range of the worlds largest drugmakers, came from Merck. Might Bachmann be going after Merck on behalf of that companys competitors who also happen to be Bachmann donors?
She’s claiming a vaccine manufactured by Merck (Gardisil) causes mental retardation. Meanwhile, she’s taking campaign donations from Merck’s top HPV vaccine (Cervarix) competitor, GlaxoSmithKline.
Hey, that’s not at all suspicious.
Weren’t we talking about cronyism, Michele? Yes, I believe we were. Tell me, does viciously attacking — on national television — the competitor of one of your big donors qualify as cronyism? I believe it does.
She’s actually managed to embarrass Ron Paul.
We are pretty pissed off about it, says one confidant. She messed up, making it harder for other candidates to speak up. Taking on Perry on this front, with serious arguments, could have been a long and very successful line of attack. She went a step too far and embarrassed the field. She polluted the issue.
Congratulations, Michele. You managed to embarrass a guy who is willing to blame the United States for 9/11 on national television. Job well done.
I’m still waiting to hear from that “plaintiff” with the damaged daughter...
I’ve seen this in three locations now.
Wonder if more details will be forthcoming?
I’m willing to bet Bachmann didn’t even know there is a competing vaccine......however, this does throw the ball back into her court for an answer.
She insists someone said it to her....but she doesn’t know who, nor does she know why she keeps repeating false information that everyone in the field says is inaccurate.
Michelle turns out to be something of a ninny, with her stupid gaffes, and especially this “appearance of impropriety”-—very foolish to attack Perry on an allied issue, when this kind of stuff is in her closet. There may be nothing to her contributors in Pharma , any more than Perry’s , but still this line of attack creates dissonance that doesn’t help her, and just gets added on to the Elvis’s birthday, John Wayne’s birthplace gaffes. She looks politically very KLUTZY, and that’s what will do her in.
Ball into her court....I agree. I’m awaiting more details.
I know that she also took gobs of money from American Crystal Sugar who is in the middle of a worker strike and then went out and voted for the right-to-work law. I agree with the right-to-work law, but the APPEARANCE is that of hypocrisy regarding her belittling of Rick Perry.
Reads like Merck was going after ‘governors’ to order mandates upon health insurance customers. Merck was already getting US to pay for their wares for the poor from the feds.
An earlier version of the story had Bachmann actually meeting this woman as a constituent. Shame on Ms. Bachmann if she made that up knowing it was wrong from the word go, but if Bachmann was simply fooled by the constituent, well as they say fool me once “shame on you” — and Bachmann should now know better to vet people with such stories. Let’s see how this pans out.
Ouch!
Karma can sting.
That one line took a lot of wind out of my Bachmann sails...before this I had hopes for her, but this was a big turn off for me. The moment those words came out of her mouth, the thought...”Oh, yeah. She’s a lawyer.” She kept using very emotionally-laden terms, “poor little innocent girl” as if Perry was some kind of pedophile, and now she can’t produce her plaintiff.
She has run the worst campaign I have ever seen. She keeps putting her foot in her mouth and giving the MSM ammunition. Did she not think that there are “crony capitalist” donations in her coffers? They are in everybody’s coffers. This will never change. It is the way the system works and it probably cannot be reformed. McCain tried to reform it, but it just made things worse.
I’d prefer a klutz who is genuinely concerned about our freedoms to a smoothie who is constantly bent on compromising them in the name of some temporary prosperity.
If Bachmann keeps this up, I may have to retract my severe criticism of Chris Wallace asking her if she was flaky.
The charge of ‘crony capitalism’ is NOT limited to Perry mandating the consumers of health insurance to pay for a vaccine. The above link shows what liberals have waiting for him in their warehouse... I do admit that it does read like the Clintons/Obamas rise to political greatness, but it is NOT going to go well outside of Texas.
heheh....lol.....LMAO!!!!! She’s done.
Exactly.
It's probably time Sarah Palin did some vetting of Michelle Bachmann before she appears on another Greta show supporting her.
