DETROIT The United Auto Workers union won $5,000 signing bonuses for its workers and a promise to re-open an assembly plant in Tennessee as part of its tentative new contract with General Motors, according to people briefed on the negotiations.
The unions president, Bob King, said in a statement that union members would get a larger share of the profits from G.M.s comeback from its federal bailout and bankruptcy in 2009.
In what is being viewed as a landmark deal, the union also preserved health care and pensions and improved profit-sharing for its 48,000 members who work at G.M.

The whole thing is disgusting. A $5000 signing bonus? GMAFB.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
And how much $$$ did Uncle Sap lose on its GM “investment?”
Just bought an new Toyota Sequoia....PROUDLY non-union made in Indiana.
Thought abot buying a Ford, but still union made and I absolutely will not buy union made if alternatives exist.
Sounds just like the Twentieth Century Motor Company.........
Another Honda.
Ah excuse me....THey negotiated aagainst themselves. What was management going to do, say no? The dumb bastards would have struck against themseles.
I pray for GM and Chrysler to get their just deserves..
So, this year, they selected the easiest one to deal with, General Motors, who essentially have Union people on both sides of the table.
This contract was partly designed to screw Ford, big time.
With the latest Ford ad, which slammed GM's bailout past, you can expect some heated up words and competition between Ford & GM.
Do the new GM cars still come with the optional detachable steering wheel?
How many SECURED Bond holders would this ‘signing bonus’ money have paid back?
How many vendors who had amount due to them on Accounts Payable???
Might as well sign his paychecks HUGO CHAVEZ.
Barry the Imposter is nothing but a thief.
How long before OUR John Galt appears???
Notice, again, the socialist media continue using the term “workers” instead of the term “employees”?
Interesting that the NY Times Annual Report refers to the people in their company as “employees” not “workers”, including those in several unions. You think they would like their own “workers” to think they are are more than simply socialist union-supplied tools and more like stakeholders who are part of the company?
” union members would get a larger share of the profits from G.M.s comeback from its federal bailout and bankruptcy in 2009.
In what is being viewed as a landmark deal, the union also preserved health care and pensions and improved profit-sharing for its 48,000 members who work at G.M.”
This mean more money for the union which is then turned over to the Democrat Party in a thinly disguised money-laundering operation.
What I'm waiting for is the next time the UAW and Ford have to negotiate their contracts... After all, the UAW is a competitor to Ford through their ownership position in GM & Chrysler, and has a vested interest in putting Ford in a less advantageous business position, or even putting the company out of business. I wonder if there will be any sort of anti-trust or anti-monopolistic investigation against the UAW... Oh wait, I forgot the US Department of (In)Justice is a wholey owned subsidiary of the unions.

Redistribution of wealth = Taxpayers to Unions. Never, ever buy a GM product again. Tell your friends, neighbors, your friend’s neighbors and children. Drive these scumbags out for good.
The bond holders took it in the ass, The NEW stock is down about a third from its IPO price, you owe the tax payers billions, and union ass clowns get a $5000.00 bonus. Yup, things are going as planned
I will go to my grave having not contemplated buying nor leasing, purchasing or borrowing, renting any GM government car. This I swear. These people can choke on their ‘work’....
You got in at a good time, I don't care for the looks of the 2012 Camry redesign, looks like a Chevy
