Rick Perry loves science. Political science.
Washington Post ^ | September 16, 2011 | Ezra Klein

Texas Gov. Rick Perry doesn’t have a reputation as the most scientifically inclined of candidates.....

But there’s one kind of science that Perry is willing, even eager, to run on: political science. And that should have his opponents worried.

In...“The VictoryLab,” Sasha Issenberg digs deep into Perry’s campaign organization, which he calls “the brainiest political operation in America.” After seven straight wins at the ballot box, Perry’s organization is also among the most fearsome in America. And there’s nothing unscientific about it. In fact, compared with Perry’s organization, every other campaign in America appears in denial of the evidence.

The hero of this story is Dave Carney, Perry’s campaign manager and a guy who embraced political science in order to attack the traditional campaign-industrial complex.......

...Carney invited political scientists into Perry’s 2006 gubernatorial reelection bid. He allowed them to create, in effect, a laboratory for experiments testing different forms of campaigning.

That was, to say the least, an unorthodox use of both the campaign’s money and the candidate’s time. And the candidate wasn’t known for his excessive regard for academics. “You don’t have to have a PhD from Harvard in political science to understand our economics,” Perry liked to say.

But Carney thought there was another side of Perry that the initiative could appeal to: He was cheap. And evidence can be a boon to cheapskates. “When you’re spending $25 million on an election and you can save 2 percent, that’s a lot of money,” Carney said. “You’ll have more money to spend on something that works.”

.....Perry easily won his subsequent elections.

That’s a lesson that Governor — potentially, President — Perry could apply to the science of global warming, as well. If we take the science seriously,...and be able to get a head start on preparing for it.....

I could engrave everything that Ezra Klein knows about science on the head of a pin and still have room for the complete texts of War and Peace, Gone with the Wind, the Bible, and the Oxford English Dictionary (Unabridged Edition), including supplements.

I just don’t like the MSM saying anything nice about my candidate. It’s almost like they are trying to be a mush. I can’t have this!

Whuuut? You mean intelligence isn't the same thing as wisdom . . . whodathunkit? LOL!

Liberals don't seem to understand the difference between intelligence and wisdom they think the two are the same thing. Glad to see Perry is WISE enough to know the difference.

Can I ask where the liberals came up with this nonsense about not believing in science, if you are not behind this global warming stuff????

Why does skepticism or opposition to the Al Gore agenda mean that you are “against science”?? Isn’t that a quantum leap in judgement?

Is this a “big lie” being repeated over and over, to make voters think that Republicans “oppose science” and scientific research, if they don’t swallow what Al Gore is serving up??????

I would like the liberals to explain why it is that the earth has steadily warmed since the end of the ice age. At one time, where Chicago is now was under a mile of ice. Haven’t we really seen global warming since then, and wasn’t it a good thing that the glaciers receded????????/

The Left can't stand that religion "thingy" either -- the clinging to faith and guns stuff.

“It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford’s book organizes the facts very well.) I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.”

“I want no part of it, so please accept my resignation. APS no longer represents me, but I hope we are still friends.

"Glad to see Perry is WISE..."

And I truly believe that--unlike so many liberal pundits--he knows the Source of wisdom is not located in his own mind!

The above is an excellent analysis on Gov. Perry’s part....and reflects what many of us have been saying for some time.

Perry could apply to the science of global warming, as well.

Perry's position on global warming goads the Lefties more than anything.

How dare he imply that it is a hoax? Doesn't he know what 'a consensus of scientists' means?

[Didn't a consensus of scientists a few centuries ago claim that the world was flat and one would fall off the edge if one ventured out in the ocean too far?]

It’s ‘educated’. Education has nothing to do with intelligence. College can only make me more skilled in something, they cannot make me smarter.

You don't have to have a PhD from Harvard to understand that statement!!

Although I'd question how "smart" some of those people really are, myself, and I've never bought the claim that Obama is "smart" either.

“Can I ask where the liberals came up with this nonsense about not believing in science, if you are not behind this global warming stuff????”

It is clearly a result of illogical thinking on their part.
Their brains have gotten stuck in a rut....constantly constructing straw men.

I think they also present us with model specimens of GK Chesterton’s famous quote:

“The first effect of not believing in God, is that you lose your common sense.”
