A paroled killers Obama bumper sticker was the break that helped cops nab the man accused of the cold-blooded murder of a Tedeschis convenience store clerk, jurors in Edward Corliss murder trial learned yesterday.
It struck me as odd, state parole officer Kevin Devlin testified yesterday in Suffolk Superior Court about the campaign sticker plastered on the back of parolee Corliss white Plymouth Acclaim.
Hes a guy from Somerville, so I was surprised he was supporting Obama, Devlin said.
I made a joke about it. He said it was on the car when they bought it.
Corliss is on trial for the murder of Surendra Dangol, a 39-year-old immigrant from Nepal and Jamaica Plain convenience store clerk who was gunned down on the day after Christmas in 2009.
At that time, Corliss, now 65, was on parole after serving part of a life sentence for killing a Salisbury store clerk in 1971.
After the shocking 2009 execution, Devlin learned police were looking for a car exactly like his parolees and dropped the dime that led cops to Corliss. Police said security video images of the robbers getaway car show the same Obama-touting vehicle.
Police said Corliss donned a hat and a womans wig, entered the store on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, took $746 in cash and shot Dangol.
Jurors almost didnt hear Devlins testimony yesterday.
Corliss lawyer John C. Hayes argued that if jurors learned Corliss was on parole they might be prejudiced in the first-degree murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm case.
But Judge Diane Kottmyer overruled him, advising jurors that Corliss is innocent until proven guilty.
The fact that he was on parole has nothing to do with the facts of this case, she said
Edward Corliss
LOL, what a mean old man. He ought to claim he is related to Obama to help his case.
A sensible judge, for a change.
A cold blooded murder is paroled and he does it again. What a surprise.
Is Somerville a conservative counterpoint to Boston?
I think we need to assemble a rogue’s gallery of criminals sporting Obama paraphernalia.
We recently had a case here in Pittsburgh of a cop who was arrested for operating a prostitution/drug ring out of his house. When he was interviewed, he was wearing an Obama/Biden t-shirt.
Then there was the iconic image just prior to the ‘08 election, of a police SWAT team converging upon a house, with Obama signs all over the yard.
I also recall a collection of mug shots of arrested criminals wearing Obama gear.
There’s a pattern here, somewhere . . .
#AttackWatch @State Parole Officer Kevin Devlin
Should I report this to Attack Watch? Sounds like an anti-Obama hate crime.
Perhaps it is considered weird because there are very few Obama 08 stickers still in existence. I venture to say that I see more W04 stickers than Obama stickers around here. There are still a few McCain stickers too, but more W04 and practically no Obama08s lurking around.
Given the horrid economy and lack of buying power, Obama stickers may soon be outnumbered by “I Like Ike” bumper stickers.
You don't mess with Obama backers, he takes care of his homies.
He shoulda claimed he was black......
Heavy Democrat district. More than a 10 to 1 margin of registered Dems to Pubs in Oct 2008 (according to Wikipedia - 24,456 to 2,128). There were 17,636 registered as unaffiliated, but who knows how that breaks down. It still leaves more than half of registrants as dems.
Methinks the cop was referencing a less-than-savory reason for there not to be many Obama stickers in Somerville.
He was on parole. Why was he on parole?
Post of the week!
He was on parole. Why was he on parole?

According to the text in the article, above the ‘fold’, he had murdered, (or at least was convicted and was serving a life sentence), a store clerk in 1971.
