Encouraged by Michelle Obama's campaign to reduce childhood obesity, the company that owns the Olive Garden, Red Lobster and four other popular restaurant chains is pledging to cut the calories and sodium in its meals and overhaul its kids' fare.
Darden Restaurants Inc. was unveiling the changes Thursday, with the first lady on hand to lend support.
The company will pledge to reduce the calories and sodium in all its meals by 10 percent over five years, and by 20 percent over 10 years. For children, French fries and sugar-sweetened beverages will become the exception and not the rule.
All kids' meals will automatically come with a side of fruit or vegetables and eight ounces of 1 percent milk unless an adult requests a substitute, Drew Madsen, president and chief operating officer of Orlando, Fla.-based Darden, told The Associated Press.
"We think it's the most comprehensive health and wellness commitment in the industry," he said.
Darden's restaurants serve more than 400 million meals annually at more than 1,900 locations nationwide. Its four other restaurant chains are LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52. The Capital Grille and Seasons 52 do not have children's menus.

If Olive Garden does away with their bread sticks and chicken alfredo, I won’t have any reason to go there. I like my own spaghetti and marinara sauces better anyway. And as much as people dislike ‘that woman’, ‘All that for a flag?’, they could be doing their business some real harm
Besides, people don’t go to Olive Garden to buy less calories. The problem is not calories, it’s eating too much. I can usually get at least two meals out of their entrees after eating all that good salad.
They must have read my emails.
I have been complaining about the sodium and cholesterol levels for over a year. Their reply is that they have been working with suppliers to do just that for some time.
Bigfoot, I mean Michelle, had nothing to do with it.
That picture is not good.....it leaves out the best parts
I’m not familiar with Olive Garden. Do they make their own pasta from a machine?
I’m going to miss the Olive Garden.
We’ve been to both an Olive Garden and Red Lobster in the last month. This really frosts me. How often do children eat at any of these restaurants that it really makes a difference? If these restaurants are in bed with Michelle Obama, we’re out. Good-bye lobster bisque.
That I don’t know. The ones I visit here are always so busy, I don’t know how they’d have time to. They start your meal with a big family style bowl of salad with an Italian vinegarette dressing that is really good.

Wouldn’t want anyone to spend money at these places by accident.
Wow what an idea, get someone really “popular” with the public to partner up with your business. Maybe even plaster a bunch of pics of them in an area were people are trying to eat. If this whole moochelle thing doesn’t work out for them, they might have better luck with Casey Anthony.
I appreciate high quality filet mignon, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying cheeseburgers too.
The red stuff is still covering up her best parts
Fortunately Mrs, Scottinva and I can put together a surf-and-turf dinner to top anything OG can offer us.. without interference from an angry wookiebitch.
maybe moochelle’ full frontal onstaurants will slim down the waddlers among the welfare class
not
when is the food stamp program gonna stop subsidizing foods with fat salt sugar and sodium?
mmmm mm mmmm

Red lobster , olive garden off the dining list. I’ll stick to rudy’s barbecue, Tony Romas, local restaurants. Hey everybody needs to spread the word!!!! Let’s see if we can drive sales down!!! Hahhahahaha. Once again the reverse Midas touch should be exhibited, that way ANY possible endorsement to be made after they are booted out will be ZERO.
Any corporation that even sniffs at these grifters Will see sales and profits plunge.
In addition to OG, Red Lobster, etc.
Even the 2000 pound Belgian is going “Whoa!!!!”
Maurizio`s in Williamsburg, VA!... Now, THAT`s Italian!! Olive Garden couldn`t hold a candle to Maurizio`s family-run operation.
