Perry: Wrong then or wrong now
September 14, 2011 | Vanity

Posted on 09/14/2011 5:34:41 PM PDT by MN_Mike

Many supporters of Gov. Perry have come to his defense over this Gardasil matter. The arguments are: (1) Gardasil should have been mandatory with the "opt-out" provision; (2) No big deal because the Texas legislature killed the Executive Order; or (3) as Perry says today, he made a mistake, should have made it "opt-in." Now comes word that Perry's top donor was the Republican Governors Association and that Merck began donating to RGA when Perry became its head.

Let me clue the FDA in: you should say that it “helps in the prevention of cervical cancer.”

Drinking water could be said to help to prevent the disease, because drinking water improves the immune system.

Here's the deal. We have 1/3 of the US Senate up for election this next year. To a degree the Presidential candidate can kind of sweep some of the Senators into his wake and bring them into office ~ and vice versa.

Michelle Bachman is from the Midwest. She has a good number of Senate candidates throughout that region who are going to be dependent on her candidacy bringing them victory as well. There are 23 Democrats who need to lose.

Rick Perry has, at most, a single Senator to drag along or damage.

Frankly, we need control of the US Senate no matter what. I'd prefer the Governors of Indiana or Ohio, but a Representative from the Upper Midwest will do as well.

They aren’t concerned with reality.
They would rather shout names and make unsubstantiated attacks.

Hello Robert:

Hate to link you to the Washington Post, but here it is:

Rick Perry and HPV vaccine-maker have deep financial ties
http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/perry-has-deep-financial-ties-to-maker-of-hpv-vaccine/2011/09/13/gIQAVKKqPK_story.html

But campaign disclosure records portray a much deeper financial connection with Merck than Perry’s remarks suggest.

His gubernatorial campaigns, for example, have received nearly $30,000 from the drugmaker since 2000, most of that before he issued his vaccine mandate, which was overturned by the Texas legislature.

Merck and its subsidiaries have also given more than $380,000 to the Republican Governors Association (RGA) since 2006, the year that Perry began to play a prominent role in the Washington-based group, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.

Perry served as chairman of the RGA in 2008 and again this year, until he decided to run for president. The group ranks among the governor’s biggest donors, giving his campaign at least $4 million over the past five years, according to Texans for Public Justice, a watchdog group.

I like spitting on them and then scraping them off my shoe.

They unintentionally serve a purpose and that is to get the lowest and most vile arguments on the table early. They help the rest of us polish up arguments and debating points.

Like maggots they serve a purpose, howbeit distasteful, in the Big Scheme.

That’s not what Palin claimed on FoxNews. She claimed it was “crony capitalisim”. That’s a serious charge.

I don’t infer that the FDA means that it prevents any and all cancers.

On top of that, I’m not in a position to go on record disputing the FDA. Are you qualified to parse and rebut?

Chicken feed. Check out what Merck and Pfizer have given to obama and dems across the country. They GOT obamacare— they WANT obamacare. Perry does NOT.

If you are going to generalize from a specific, then one needs some serious fact finding to build a case. Big Pharma, and elements of stupid self serving Big Insurance, and RINOs like Romney and MA corporations want obamacare. The insurance companies will disappear as the rates rise to where people can’t afford them, and cos will opt out and not pay for employees and then....voila! Single payer. Pharma of the size of Pfizer and Merck love single payer— no need to talk to any but just a few at the federal supply center to “corner the market” . Honestly, that is the plan.
If you want that, go with Romneybots. Millions of country club republicans and their democrat (he can’t be all bad he’s in my club) pals can’t be wrong, can they?
And we can look forward to reporting to the IRS whether we have coverage. Repeal Obamacare— will you ever hear romney say that-— no way.

Amen Brother!

Do you know why we Texans, the most conservative voters in the Country, decided to grant in-state tuition? Because we were out of options. We cant keep them out, the government wont let us, we cant throw them out, the government wont let us, we cant withhold medical care, we cant withhold food stamps, we cant keep them from doing a damn thing, the government won't let us.

Young progressive, your post makes my point.

No one gave up their freedom and their liberty for Gardasil, because the Texas House and Senate made sure of it.

They, not Perry, are the ones who used "the rules to benefit the people of Texas."

A note just for you ~ the final scene in "Patton" (starring George C. Scott) ""For over a thousand years, Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of a triumph - a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeters and musicians and strange animals from the conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments.

The conqueror rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children, robed in white, stood with him in the chariot, or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror, holding a golden crown, and whispering in his ear a warning: That all glory is fleeting.""

No, if I were the big prize winner I wouldn't surround myself with friends and cronies, and well wishers. I'd select hard men, brave men, ruthless men and women who would know right and do right!

To be a winner you must first BE a winner!

It doesn't matter what the FDA says. What matters is that Merck is careful in it's claims. My link was to their site.

And there is more info.

CDC HPV-Associated Cancers Statistics

In general, HPV is thought to be responsible for about—

* 90% of anal cancers.
* 65% of vaginal cancers.
* 50% of vulvar cancers.
* 35% of penile cancers.

Recent studies show that about 60% of oropharyngeal cancers (cancers of the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils) are linked to HPV

Anal cancer? And what group would that be?

The incidence of cervical cancer has plummeted since pap smears were used. That's on the CDC's site. Those that die of cervical cancer are usually women who did not get regular pap smears.
