Mitt Romney's Strange Answer
The Rush Limbaugh Program ^ | 14 September 2011 | Rush Limbaugh

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I'm gonna play you a couple sound bites from last night. Mitt Romney appeared with Ted Baxter on The O'Reilly Factor and he was asked about individual mandate as part of Romneycare, and the problem that he has with Romneycare being so close to Obamacare, and still sticking with Romneycare. The question was, "How are you gonna convince conservatives who are suspicious of you -- not all of them, but some of them -- because you did the individual mandate in Massachusetts about health care, conservatives, that drives 'em nuts, they say that the government, state and federal, have no right to force anybody to buy anything. How are you going to convince those people that they should support you?"

ROMNEY: The government, of course, has a lot of mandates, and I know folks don't like that, but mandates kids go to school, mandates they have to have auto insurance if you have an automobile. And my conservative friends say, "Well, we don't have to have automobiles," and it's like, well, what state do you live in? Of course you have to have automobiles in this nation, and the plan that we put in place was one that was put together by Republicans and Democrats, it works for Massachusetts --

RUSH: Okay, that's all we need. Hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it. Did you guys hear that the way I heard that? You have to have auto insurance if you have an automobile, "And my conservative friends say, 'Well, we don't have to have automobiles.' And it's like, what state do you live in? Of course you have to have automobiles in this nation." Now, folks, play it again, and you listen to it yourself and see what you think.

Of course you have to have automobiles in this nation --

RUSH: All right, that's it, that's it, that's it, that's it. The question is not can we get along without cars in America. The way he phrases this, "Of course you have to have automobiles in this nation." Of course you have to have water. No, everybody doesn't have to have an automobile, and then everybody doesn't have to have automobile insurance. And Romney says, "Of course you have to have automobiles in this nation." I want to be real charitable here, but I don't know, folks. It's hard to look the other way at that one.

Mittens isn’t even trying to hide his Progressivism anymore. What GOP base he is trying to carve out to win I will never know. He is just Huntsman with name recognition.

Romney bungling this long since discredited analogy is shocking. He really has not been following the debate over the last ten years or so, even since this same fraudulent comparison came up during the Hillarycare debate. Either that or he really just doesn't get it. Which would be frightening if true.

If he doesn't get this, which an eighth grader can easily see, what else is he blind to?

“You have to have auto insurance if you have an automobile,”

That tired crap AGAIN? You have to have liability insurance to protect other people from your screw-ups, NOT insurance on your car...nor should you have to have it on your body.

There’s something very goofy-looking about Romney. He’s gotta get that greasy kid stuff out of his hair.

Romney is a piece of crap. 75% of people in the U.S. drive cars.

That’s the entitlement look. I’m Mitt-vote for me, it’s my turn. What has he ever done for our country - in or out of office? NADA!! He has no patriotism in him - it’s all about him. He’s repulsive.

Mittens is letting his stalking horse Bachmann, and also Sarah Palin (who I don’t think has a clue the damage she is doing since she hasn’t followed up on her Perry smears) do his dirty work on Perry.

Well, the way Mittens’ mind works, with his easy swallowing of fantasies, perhaps he is about to advocate for children and infants getting driver’s licenses, so they will have to buy auto insurance? One has to stop and wonder how ignorant this man is to use a faulty analogy which has been debunked years ago. Ahh, but some consider that ‘leadership’ don’tchaknow.

He does not have to. The conservatives are busy knocking each other out of the race like flaming wackos. He’ll be the only socialist left standing...besides Obama.

Romneycare is the exact same thing Perry did with the Gardasil deal in Texas. It was a state issue and it was voted on by both houses and passed.
For Romney the state has the right in his case but in Perry's case it's not ok.

(at least Perry says he made a mistake)
