Obama's bill makes it illegal to discriminate against unemployed [More Jobs for Lawyers]

President Obama's American Jobs Act, which he presented to Congress on Monday, would make it illegal for employers to run advertisements saying that they will not consider unemployed workers, or to refuse to consider or hire people because they are unemployed.

The proposed language is found in a section of the bill titled "Prohibition of Discrimination in Employment on the Basis of an Individual's Status as Unemployed." That section would also make it illegal for employers to request that employment agencies take into account a person's unemployed status.

It would also allow aggrieved job-seekers to seek damages if they have been discriminated against. This provision in particular prompted Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) to argue that Obama's proposal is aimed at creating a new, special class of people who can sue companies.

Gohmert also criticized other parts of Obama's proposal, such as language that would create a program allowing workers to be reimbursed if their employer cuts their work hours by 10 percent.

Only a man as stupid as Zero could believe that the way to create jobs in the private sector is to give unemployed people the right to sue prospective employers.

And if a business has to cut an employee's hours by 10%, the taxpayers step in to make up the difference???

A more traditional approach would be tax credits to encourage employing the previously unemployed. Obama’s proposal is way overboard.

Well I am glad he read it and those were some of the sections of the bill I thought were outrageous as well. He is the first congressman that actually balked at things in the bill other than tax increases which made me think they were fine with the rest of it which is a bit unnerving to me.

sarc {

But won’t cutting the corporate income tax rate to zero make all corporations want to hire millions of employees ?

Regardless of onerous regulation ?

I mean, the high corporate income tax rate is the only thing keeping coporations from hiring, right ?

}

“It would also allow aggrieved job-seekers to seek damages if they have been discriminated against.”

So if 10 unemployed applicants in this now “protected class” are screened, and none of them are selected for a particular job, can they all sue the prospective employer even though only one position was open to be filled? Totally insane.

I like the idea. I’m unemployed and if this passes I’m going to go apply for president of a local bank and then sue when I don’t get hired.

The fact I have absolutely no experience I guess doesn’t matter. I’m starting to like commies.

Sue for no job. Never ending unemployment benefits. Free healthcare/insurance. Food stamps. Section 8 housing.

I’ll be yanking in the equivalent of $60K a year at this rate! ;-)

Stupid liberals.

I think they all know-—the problem is that many people are just so ignorant about the results of rotten communism and the fact that it is nothing but a system of slavery and destroys all civil society in the end.

Winning the Democrat Federal discrimination lottery is if you are a gay black unemployed handicapped woman who has just been fired by a straight white male boss in a big oil company.

How are you going to prove and enforce that? What an absolute idiot!

Next it will be illegal to discriminate against an illegal. Ooopss, sorry, he’s already done that (suing AZ, and Obamacare).

Truly a poison pill provision. Not a single hiring decision would be safe. Even if a company scrupulously documented everything, the hearing / review process alone would swamp them.

The first place to file your application is at your lawyer’s office. Second, will be with your congress critters. The lawyer will be so happy over a favorable settlement that he can sue your congress critters for free.

Where the hell does this egotistical bastard get off telling anyone what a law will be? I am so sick of this pissant little dictator wannabe proclaiming things that are in direct opposition to the Constitution and the long held traditions of our nation. I swear I don’t think he even cares about re-election as long as he can ruin us in one term.
No one on the pubby side seems to have the gonads to challenge him because they fear more for their jobs than for the nation.So in closing, we are so screwed.
