Russia Warns ‘Terrorist Organizations’ May Rise in Syria

Russia warned on Wednesday that “terrorist organizations” may arise in Syria should President Bashar al-Assad’s regime fall under pressure from ongoing street protests.

“If the Syrian government is unable to hold on to power, there is a high probability that radicals and representatives of terrorist organizations will become entrenched,” Interfax quoted a top foreign ministry official as saying.

Russia has been attracting increasing international anger over its continued support for Syria despite a government crackdown on protests that the United Nations estimates has killed around 2,600 people.

Moscow has refused to support Western sanctions against its Soviet-era ally and argues that equal pressure should also be placed on protesters who refuse to engage Assad in direct talks.

President Dmitry Medvedev last week also said that some of those taking part in the Syrian demonstrations had links to “terrorists”.

The foreign ministry’s new challenges and threats department chief Ilya Rogachyov said that Libya could become another safe haven for extremist groups following the fall of Moammar Gadhafi.

“Strange things are happening in Libya,” Interfax quoted Rogachyov as saying during a lecture in Russia’s second city of Saint Petersburg.

“Weapons storages have been burgled and no one knows what happened,” he said. “We can say with a high degree of probability that the weapons fell into the hands of the regional department of al-Qaida.”

Russia heavily criticized the NATO-led campaign against Gadhafi’s forces after abstaining on a U.N. vote that authorized the action.

Any “new” terrorist organizations arising in Syria are going to deal with, or make a deal with Hezbollah first.

Putin is playing chess, and Zer0 is playing tiddlywinks.

War will come to the Middle East, and Russia will profit greatly from it.

Russians will be laughing at us for a decade thanks to Obambi.

The Big “0” does not want the WMDs to be found, so there will be no Islamic Spring in Syria.

The Russians are correct.

Syria is a mixture of various religious groups -- it has officially 10% Christian (and 20% unofficially due to the escape from Iraq): Maronite Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Melkite Catholic, Latin, etc.

It also has substantial numbers of Druze and Allawis (the religious group of Assad) -- both of whom are considered heretics by Sunnis and Shias. It has a large Shia minority too

Whatever else Assad may be, he is a secular dictator (and he has a hot wife!

)

If Assad goes, expect chaos and militant groups to come to power, slaughtering Christians and Druze and Allawis.

They were also correct about Qaddafi going -- the rebels are heavily infiltrated by the Moslem brotherhood and AlQaeda.

And Libya descends more into chaos each day.

Russia will eventually invade Iran. This will be a continuation of the 4 wars Russia fought with Iran from the 1700s to the 1800s when they tore off piece by piece of the Irani kingdom.

Will peace arrive, do these nutjobs naively believe? Won’t the vacuum gets filled as quickly as US leaves by something much much worst for everyone involved, don’t these morons realize??? US’ power and influence and domination only replaced by Russia’s and/or China’s and/or terrorists’ of one kind or another .... alliance w/ which side is better for us here, and for them over there, and for the rest of the world, can these idiots answer that question??? Better yet, ask the useful idiots in Iran! They already know!

I posted an article some days back about how France and England are now worried that Uncle Sam is nearly i solationist. It means that the Western European govts who, for so long have piggy-backed on our military (never forget De Gaulle's France leaving NATO in the 50s), now have to up THEIR budgets and take care of their own back yards.

I say let the Irani govt do whatever they want, we stay out of it and out of Syria.

What will happen is that Iran has a huge number of people fed up of the ayatollahs -- mosques are empty there and people are increasingly wistfully looking back at their pre-Islamic country.

They don't hate the Israelies as a people -- they know that its just a ploy used by the govt to hide the real problems.

And Russia wants an Indian Ocean port.

Syria and Russia harbor and support shiite Hizb-allah terrorists waging jihad against Israel. Russia is the biggest state sponsor of jihadist terrorists in the whole world.
