n Monday nights debate, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum all seemed to be auditioning for the role that Jude Law plays in the film Contagion -- Alan Krumwiede, a blogger who tells millions that a vaccine to combat a lethal pathogen is actually dangerous, and claims both the epidemic and vaccine were created by government to enrich drug companies.
Krumwiedes conspiracy theory proves deadly -- and so will these Republicans, if anyone listens.
....Dont be distracted by legitimate, but minor, questions about how states should make public-health decisions: The thrust of this attack is garbage -- and deadly garbage at that. The anti-vaccine psuedo-science behind the charge has been thoroughly discredited.
By alleging that vaccines cause retardation and brain damage, Bachmann is providing aid and comfort to such groups as Generation Rescue, which still defend the now-discredited claims that vaccines cause autism. (The Lancet decertified Andrew Wakefields study last year. This year, the British Medical Journal showed his research was bogus to boot.)
All three candidates slammed Texas Gov. Rick Perry for requiring immunization of 12-year-old girls against the human papilloma virus, a leading cause of cervical cancer. The attack truly became a blogworthy screed as we heard about how Perry and Merck (the developer of Gardasil, one of the two HPV vaccines) profited from the mandate at the expense of childrens health.
....Unless other Republicans confront Bachmann or she changes her tune, fewer parents will vaccinate their kids. More children will die. Tragically, life will imitate art.

Hello
Palin was peddling the same program in 2007 as FREE !!
Yes Palin considered federal programs as FREE !
http://pajamasmedia.com/tatler/2011/09/13/sarah-palins-alaska-took-federal-funds-to-increase-access-to-gardasil/
The phony scandal has come full circle.
Its been overplayed.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
That poster is a full time RON PAUL Nutter /troll and a huge Perry Hater.
Completely irrational.
Anyway anyone wants to slice this mandate it was a sitting Governor executing a tax on consumers of private health care.
Just like algore did in his methodology of mandating telephone companies to collect an internet tax for the ‘poor’. What part of the first TEA PARTY do you not understand?
I can tell from your posts that you can’t tell the difference between allowing something, and mandating something. You come off as ignorant, and I won’t waste another moment of my time responding to what you post.
She should have kept out the wacko Bachman smear campaign for her buddy Romney.
So sad.
Move on DU troll your Perry hater campaign is done here.
Can’t handle the facts troll !
And you want to characterize Gov. Perry’s passionate appeal for access to a life saving vaccine as, “passionate defense of the mandate as government policy.”
Thank you for posting the links and the quotes.
If I were you, I’d be more worried about obama ruining the military and traditional marriage with his gay agenda, taking away our second amendment rights under the radar and and continuing to redistribute the wealth. Gardisil is a non-issue in this election - IMHO.
This vaccine will save the lives of women around the world. It's not so pretty in many corners of the world for "innocent 11-12 year-old girls." -- All those "wild girls" you've so crudely labeled.
Read up on the studies of this drug.
Ah I have NOT been complaining about Gardisil, rather the taxation without representation. Why would I not spend the time to vet a candidate that wants me to vote for him/her? AND I see exactly the redistribution of wealth by the Governor's attempted mandate. Obamacare is filled with mandates to the private health insurance companies to the point he is mandating/taxing them right out of business.
Unfortunately Parry porters do NOT seem to comprehend what mandates are.
Maybe you yourself should run with Mayor Bloomberg on an independent ticket. Michelle Obama might endorse your pro-health-mandates as well. Obamacare AND Romneycare could be part of your platform.
I am to assume that you don't have that blemish on your upper arm from the required childhood vaccines or are you just a hypocrite?
I'm all on board with your slippery slope argument; when you make a third party responsible for paying your medical bills then that third party has a vested interest in mitigating future expenses by reducing risk.
Here is what I am not on-board about - your inability to to process proportion and scope which is very evident ironically in your reductio ad absurdum. A shot, one of many vaccine shots that a youth takes in this country is not nearly as freedom robbing as "outlawing sugar and soda" or eliminating the automobile. Since you can't distinguish between these things, I'm afraid a rational discussion is impossible.
Another problem I see is the inability to comprehend reality and then lashing out at others when your imaginary and capricious Utopian ideals are not fully and unquestionably embraced and retro-actively implemented in the real world.
The fact of that matter is that in this country, we don't let people die in the streets. I preceive that you consider that a fault and would prefer that society let others succumb to whatever malady befalls them and that is that - you go on your merry way for as long as it is not you - then no expenses should be spared to extend your life even if it is for one minute. I get it.
It would be interesting to know how entrenched you are in this ideal. What if a vaccine came out to combat TB, particularly that awful strain that is coming out of Central America and is becoming more prevalent in the US. Lets say that the vaccine is $360 which is outside the reach of many Americans. Are you all for economic discrimination where only those who can fork out the time and money can receive the benefit at $+750/dose (losing the economy of scale price reduction). How many dead bodies need to be piled up before you rethink this position? If treating this brand of TB costs hundreds of thousands of dollars in expensive and scarce medical care and loss of productivity (what employer would knowingly have a walking disease spreader contaminating the office) are you still for your position?
For as long as there is a spark of humanity and compassion in Americans, and for as long as there is an increasing segment of society who believes that (a) nothing bad will ever happen to them and (b) they are entitled to life long, no expenses spared, free healthcare there will always be tension in balancing social costs along with honoring freedom and liberty. I think it is pretty clear that you don't have any compassion for anyone and consider a subsidized vaccine, not a benefit but akin to being a galley slave. Its for that reason you are on the fringe margin of society and thankfully, your opinions don't matter.
So you disagree with what Michele Bachmann said about the vaccine?
Perry is their enemy not Obama.
And that tells it all.
Funny how this poster has ignored the FACT Gov Palin was peddling the same program in 2007 as a free federal program in AK !
Nothing is free from the feds.
The whole issue have been so overplayed !
That was a whole lot of truth.
Looks like you’re another Texan turned liberal by the possibility of a Perry presidency.
Being that Cboldt got here almost a decade before you did, you're making yourself out to be an assclown.
I'm a Perry supported too... can you pretend to support someone else?
Yeah but the men transmit it to their female partners. They are the ‘carriers’.
