Perry repeatedly found himself in the crosshairs, as the field of candidates took turns attacking his positions on illegal immigration, Social Security, and his controversial 2007 push to vaccinate Texas schoolgirls against human papillomavirus, a common sexually transmitted that can lead to cervical cancer. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, whose standing among Republicans has slipped dramatically since Perry entered the race, said she was "offended" by Perry's executive order, which included an opt-out provision for parents who did not want the vaccine.

Illegal immigration.open borders and the hundreds of thousands of dollars in “perks” received from supporters are far bigger problems than Gardisil.
A question I've asked a couple of times, but gotten no answer to is: we have 49 (or 56) other states. What did governors of other states do regarding Gardasil?
If the situation created such a pressing need for Perry to act, surely there were other governors who took action.
Thank you Outlaw Woman. My son moved from Florida to Round Rock, Texas last year after researching job opportunities and found work in his line after 2 weeks! He is now a new and proud Texan!
See Post 117.
If there is one mother that should have wanted girls in Alaska protected against HPV, that mother should be Sarah Palin as her own daughter has a very good chance of already being infected with the HPV virus.
Apparently most in Texas want it.
I agree his answer could have been better. He seemed to imply that they would automatically be on the "dole" if not allowed in-state tuition.
What he should have said IMO was that it's cost effective and a plus for the state (in future taxes) if they be allowed to use in-state tuition and become college graduates vs not having degrees.
I would like to think he would run circles around this group of jokers right now, but to be honest, more likely then not, a big chunk of freepers would probably call him a Rino and another group would be tearing him down because he isn't Governor Palin or Ron Paul or whomever.
He had the 11th commandment, which seems to have been replaced with the newest commandment, "Thou shall call any republican a RINO that speaks about another republican other then Palin positively"......(and I actually like Governor Palin and want her to run).
Are you a Ron Paul or a Romney troll ?
You do nothing but trash Perry here non stop .
“And Rick Perry said he was wrong.”
He admitted to using a wrong approach - executive order.
In reality his goal was wrong.
Which Bachmann and Palin both correctly understand. It was a heavy handed, big government nanny state move. And his response was that he should have enlisted more (legislation) nannies before execution of the plan.
Rick S did the best job explaining WHY Peryy was so wrong.
Oh no kidding? What a coincidence...my son called me yesterday (we live in MO) and informed me that he and his wife want to move to Texas. They are thinking the Fort Worth area. He’s in the Aerospace industry. That’s good to hear about your son getting work so quickly. What does he do?
It is a sexually transmitted disease and not the same danger as to the public as a whole, unless your daughter is having sex with everyone and I mean everyone in town and even then its not the same as TB, smallpox, measles, or typhus. Your argument is without merit.
Do you really want the government tell you and yours what care you should, shouldn’t and MUST get?
There are at least three pending lawsuits outside of Maryland that are challenging colleges for being out of compliance with federal law by allowing illegal immigrants to receive in-state tuition. The lawsuits claim the state laws violated the federal Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, which prohibits states from providing a postsecondary education benefit to an alien not lawfully present in the United States on the basis of residence unless any U.S. citizen or national is eligible for the same benefit.
The most notable case, Robert Martinez v. Regents of the University of California, is a class action suit in California state court. Kris Kobach represents the plaintiffs on behalf of the Immigration Reform Law Institute. Kobach has since been elected Kansas Secretary of State. The case has been appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, and a decision on whether the justices will hear it is expected in late spring, Kobach said.
Kobach is also behind a second suit, Mannschreck v. Regents of the University of Nebraska, which was filed in Nebraska court. Kobach said the plaintiffs were required to seek relief from a federal agency before the case can proceed, and the case is on hold until the U.S. Justice Department decides if it will offer them anything. The Department of Justice did not respond to inquiries about the lawsuit.
The defendants argue that because they went to high school in the state, they can receive in-state tuition, Kobach said. This is a loophole; the law prohibits using residency to determine eligibility.
The third suit, Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas v. State of Texas (University of Houston), is scheduled to have its next hearing in Harris County District Court on June 13.
“The program had an opt out.”
The “opt out” wasn’t a practical one. A parent had to beg to get released from it. I’m not a fascist.
Backman came off as nasty and petty.
She is done but she seems to have teamed up with Romney.
Please note Michele never touched Romney.
She is vying for his VP slot now.
“So you are for discontinuong all the vaccinations that children have to get before they can attend school?”
Yes. The government has no right to force medications on children. Next question.
The TX state law allows Executive Orders. Perry has used it rarely. He said he should have gone to the Legislature first. The Legislature did not pass it, the parents did not like it, and it was dropped a long time ago. It is a NON-ISSUE! Perry is heavily involved in raising money for cancer in TX and is pro-life. I am from TX and have seen what he stands for. I have voted for him in 3 elections, will vote for him in the Primary and as the GOP candidate for President. He can bet Obama plain and simple.
