(CNN) -- There is a lot of buzz about CNN's new poll that shows Rick Perry seemingly solidifying his lead among Republican in the primary contest. Forty-two percent of Republicans think Rick Perry has the best shot at beating Barack Obama. Forty-five percent of seniors support Perry compared to 21% for Mitt Romney.
There is one question that is not getting as much attention, though in my mind it explains every other question. CNN asked, "Which Republican candidate is most likely to fight for their beliefs?" The winner? Rick Perry with 29%, followed by Sarah Palin at 23%. Mitt Romney? Michele Bachmann? They tied at 11%.
The answer to the question really says very little about Rick Perry and a great deal about Mitt Romney. It plays into the "opportunist" critique that many primary voters have of Romney.
In his book, Mitt Romney compared those responsible for the "looming bankruptcy" of Social Security to people engaged in a criminal enterprise, but this year he attacks Rick Perry for calling it a Ponzi scheme.
Pro-life voters are still skeptical of Romney's conversion. Fiscal conservatives are skeptical of any governor of Massachusetts. Tea party activists joke that the only issue Romney has not flipped on is the one he should "Romneycare."....

Bless your heart . . .
Good, I am so glad to see this. Both of these men know what it has been like to try and deal with Obama as both are Gov’s.
Sarah Palin 23 percent and has not announced yet. If she runs, she wins for sure. That is actually better than I thought she did. One of the good things with Gov Perry in the race is he will make Romney lose for sure. And for that, that is good news.
It’s a big day for Perry and Free Republic has been down all day. Expect the news to come flowing in before the debate tonight.

The skinny: Because Romney is a known RINO whereas Perry is a RINO wrapped in a conservative book cover.

oops not sure why it repeated haha
I do appreciate her being one of the only ones backing Perry on the SS thing though. Mitt,Bachmann, Pawlenty as well as Rove have been really going after him. It's good to have strong allies.

Perry Campaign: Remember When Romney Compared Social Security to a Criminal Enterprise? [quote from Romney's book] " What would happen to the bankers responsible for misusing the money? They would go to jail. But what has happened to the people responsible for the looming bankruptcy of Social Security? They keep returning to Congress every two years. [end quote]
The 23% was “candidate most likely to fight for their beliefs” not “likely to vote for”.
This category is pretty meaningless.
Because Perry is like the neighbor with whom you occasionally have a barbecue and beer. Romney is the annoying salesman that beats on your door and interrupts the visit with your neighbor.
I hope he uses the banker and jail line on Romney tonight when Romney goes after him on SS.
Because Romney is a Republican Lite??
Palin declined an invite to tonight’s debate.
More and more, I am thinking she is not going to run, especially now that Perry is in. If he faulters soon (like within the next week or so), she might.
