A skirmish broke out on Morning Joe today as Tavis Smiley claimed President George W. Bush "lied" the USA into the war in Iraq. Joe Scarborough and--surprisingly--Jon Meacham forcefully refuted Smiley's slur.
Scarborough unwittingly provoked the incident when, commenting on yesterday's 9-11 observances, he called for a Kumbaya moment in which Americans would put aside politics and thank presidents Bush and Obama for keeping the country safe. That set Smiley off: "the reality is that one of those guys lied to the American people"--and the fight was on. View video here.

Tavis Smiley claims “Bush lied” about WMD. Joe Scarborough and Jon Meacham surprisingly fight back. Ping to Today show list.
Tavis probably believes the moon landing was staged in Arizona.
Any program that has Tavis Smiley on as a guest isn’t worth watching. What’s next on Morning Joe? Some radical imam to argue that Jews really planted explosives in the towers?
YOU LIE!!!
That “BIG LIE” Conspiracy theory still persists among the whackjob left, who STILL to this day think AL GORE won the 2000 election.
Hey George, didn’t your Brother say we would be out within 6 mos? Is that a lie?
Pray for America
Actually Bush Didn’t Lie

Two leftist organizations have released a study that claims that the Bush administration lied about Iraq. Somehow I think we’ve heard that one before. Well, the two groups—the Center for Public Integrity and the Fund for Independence in Journalism—managed to secure major media attention by making the claim that the Bush administration released 935 false statements. Clearly no one was in the mood to read all 935, so the leftist groups boiled them down to 532. We hear that on 532 occasions the Bush administration claimed that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. So the claim is not that Bush told 532 lies, but that he told the same lie 532 times.
Let’s talk about current events Tavis...you know, that Obama is a liar and is caught forging government documents and committing identity and Social Security fraud (not to mention real estate and tax fraud).
How about a regular appearance from Paul Krugman?
So someone really WAS watching Morning Joke! Wow!
George Bush didn’t lie, but the Bush Administration never put out any statement during that time about what happened to the WMD’s. They have no proof that Bush lied.
Morning Joke is right.
What was the lie again?
Apparently the lie was all the intel the CIA had gathered during the Clinton administration which was turned over to the Bush administration by the same CIA director.
I have yet to hear what lie was told.
Joe S, meet historical revisionism.
Anyway...
Tavis Smiley looked like a little kid who got his very first (richly deserved) spanking and had no idea what to do.
