I live in Texas but I haven’t had an ounce of respect for Dallas Cowboys since Jimmy Johnson got the boot.

Odd, I was looking at Kel Tec's site last night and felt that familiar twitch when I was looking at the SU-16B. Any opinion on it?

Nice looking weapon but I know nothing about them.
davetex said he had a SU-16C. He may be able to give you some details.

I think it would make a good survival rifle.
I thought it felt flimsy but reports of actual use indicate that it is tough as nails

Thanks. All I know about them is they have a folding stock and chamber 5.56 NATO. I've seen them in black, OD, and desert tan, and they run about $475. Also seen a couple pictured with 20 rd. mags (aftermarket, I assume).

Flimsy, as in 'cheap, mass-overseas production' flimsy?

No. The forestock/bipod just seemed a bit flimsy to me.
Everyone I have talked to that owns on loves them, but I went for the AR 15 and an AK chambered for .223

Oh, OK. That's all? Nuts to the bipod. Give me a good crotch in a tree trunk. Done it before. LOL I was more worried about feed/jam issues, and the like. I'd go for an AR-15 in a heartbeat (I liked my M16A2 back in another life), but the SU-16 is more in my wallet's current comfort zone. I guess I'm partial to the look of the pseudo-M14 ergonomics of it.

If you get the kel tec rifle for home defense, get the one that accepts glock 17 magazines in 9mm.
They arent too expensive, about $299. Get one and shoot at least 300 round of ball and hollow points and make sure those work. if they do, then youve got something good. Id also buy 3-4 17 round glock 17 pistol mags and one or two of the 33 round glock 9mm mags they market for the restricted glock 18 machine pistol. My friend, who sells computer stuff and travels on the road between WV and florida weekly has one in the bottom of his big overnight bag and has a glock 26 9mm subcompact in his pocket. those two guns put together would get him home from a road trip in a strange motel. REEE MEMBER if you would..no one, and I mean nobody, wants to get shot.
When I travelled to Florida for something in January Icarried a glock 26 and a smith and wesson model 642. I had TEN loaded glock 19 mags at the bottom of my bag. to help me get home with my older parents.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I did have an SU-16c for a while and it was a good little rifle. I did not like the bi-pod because it was just too flimsy. So I removed it and installed a Red Lion aluminum tri-rail fore-end, and some other stuff, in fact I put too much stuff on it. I should have just left it alone as the super light weight rifle it is intended to be.
It never malfunctioned and it is a great shooter. It will take any standard AR mag and is chambered in 5.56. I don’t have anything bad to say about it. If you get one, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Here is a great resource:
