Can you hear it?
The sound of President Obamas political advisors licking their chops in anticipation of running against Rick Perry and reminding the rest of us a thousand different ways that the Texas governor knows his Texas history, that is.
As The Washington Examiners Haley Peterson reports in todays print edition, Perry told a Tea Party audience in 2009 that Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave it if we decided to do that.
Perry was simply pointing out what most Texans know from infancy, and are known to boast modestly about from time to time when talking to folks from foreign lands like New York and California.
But you would think the former Al Gore supporter from Austin had read Jonathan Swifts modest proposal for ending the Irish potato famine and cried Eureaka! in admiring response.
Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs an Alabaman who undoubtedly knows Perry was just indulging a familiar Texas past time of boasting about the states uniqueness offered this glimpse of what will surely be a standard Democratic attack theme.
Rick Perry is the governor who two years ago who two years ago openly talked about whether Texas should leave the union, Gibbs said on NBCs Meet the Press.
Heres something else Gibbs also must certainly have known long before he uttered those words on the Jeffrey Immelts propaganda network: In the same statement in which Perry reminded everybody of one of the unique conditions of Texas entry into the federal union, he also said weve got a great union. There is absolutely no reason to dissolve it.
So Perry said the exact opposite of what Gibbs would like everybody in America to think he said. But, hey, whats a little outright lie among friends (Gibbs and his liberal mainstream media buddies asking him questions)?
Heres another story that is often heard when a Texan comes into friendly contact with one or more Yankees:
In the Spring of 1863, General Robert E. Lee was conducting a military review of his Army of Northern Virginia for the benefit of an English military observer, Col Arthur Fremantle.
When members of Hoods Texas Brigade marched past the reviewing stand, Fremantle, who knew of the units amazing effectiveness as shock troops, was puzzled by what he saw and exclaimed: Why General Lee, these men hardly have shirts on their backs.
To which Lee replied: Thats okay, Colonel. The enemy never sees the backs of my Texans.
Hearing such a story and being from the state after which the heroes of the tale were named, its simply too tempting not to remind visitors from up North that Texas is just about the most unique place in the whole universe.
Too bad some people just cant tell the difference between pulling Yankee legs and plotting political strategy.
What makes massa2shits a nit-pickers paradise? What the hell is two days, maybe it was a cool day 2 days past “official” Spring and the writer felt like Spring. The point was about Hood’s Texans, not the season.
Yes, I’ve seen this posted over and over and over again. It shows absolutely nothing about the mixed feelings of Texan posters about Perry, which is what my post was about.
And that's one of those dumb Texas things that I just love about Texas and another reason I'm glad to be a dumb proud Texan.
Maybe if more Americans thought that way about the Feds things would be a lot different.
I had a leftist friend trying to make a big deal about not naming two climate scientists who didn’t agree with global warming. All I could say was, “are you kidding?”
Talk about a stupid leftist gotcha question. I thought Perry handled it very well. He stuck to his points, although he could have also turned it on the jack wagon who asked the question and said, “are you kidding? I will get you a list of scientists after the debate, or you can google it yourself!”
now, in a national TV debate, lets ask Barack a question like, “Mr. Obama, you said there are 57 states, can you name 10, their capitals and their governors?” and watch him um, ahm, and choke.
Your little troll venture will be nifty talk back over on your home turf DU.
Keep up the newby troublemaker role dude, then you can cry about zot to your KOS cross-dressin friends.
There are a lot of good parts to California. Can we just build a fence around San Francisco and Los Angeles and then kick those cities out of the union?
We could repeat the process for several other leftist urban hell holes around country. Detroit, parts of New York, Philadelphia, etc.
We could make it temporary and bring them back in after all the rioting had finished and society has restored itself.
I was being sarcastic. Unlike a certain gal from Wasilla, I am 100pc sure Perry could ably respond if asked what he reads.
There you’ve gone and done it, reminding all the pothead PDS paulnut coyotes about the talking points list faxed over from ronpaul. Lack of response to the little Martian Doctor’s “Sexting Perry” ad had em in a daze.
Secession of a State only happens, per the SC decision, with the consent of the remainder of the States.
Welcome to FR... I’ve been a LONG time lurker, but a more recent participant (like you), and found that many here love to get lazy about facts and logic and simply resort to “n00b shut up” type approaches - the appeal to seniority as a method of validation of position.
That strikes me more as a hard-core, Leftist union approach, but here on FR - it passes as sound reason for some!
Keep on beleiving that. Even with Soros secret backing $, ronpaul was never going anywhere except down to the ashcan of history. You can even see the embarrasment in Rand.
Are you coming out of the ronpaul closet, not to hide under Palin’s skirt any longer? Regretably, one reason Sarah has fallen in favor points right back to the paulnutz who trash Perry and run back to hide, screaming “I love Sarah”.
If that’s the real Palin supporters, then no thanks, maybe she really was just a shooting star.
The point the writer is making (and I am agreeing with —w/ comment and links in my first post following the article) is that the MSM, the Left and anyone who wants to kick Perry (thinking it will make their candidate more appealing) will not look at what Perry said — only snip and twist it to say what they want others to think he said (meant, wanted, longed for, didn’t know....).
Ditto. Why is it Illegal to study the teachings of Jesus, or Moses then?
Go peddle your illuminutty figerpuppet praise somewhere else!
Ya think there’s security in numbers? 2 trolls.... LOL.
Post positive about your favorite CONSERVATIVE or carry it back on to the “other side of the aisle”.Uppity-ass newbies trying to make a name by being disruptive will be long forgotten.
As you have seen some here see it as duty to call out smear tacticians and distruptive posters, not just new ones. Since Perry has announced, we have had a wild ride of paul type snipers distorting and smearing with half-truths. Care to promote you candidate, you’ll find few “thinking FReepers” who will deride you for it, unless of course its not ronpaul or Mutt.
As William Faulkner observer, for Southerners of his generation, Pickett's Charge was the defining epoch of that era. Prior to, the South was ascendant, afterwards, hopelessly defeated.
Freemantle was a witness at Gettysburg (July 1-4) and went from there to New York, where he witnessed the New York Draft riots, July 13-16, departing for England before they were quelled. I think it would be interesting to know that Freemantle met Lee shortly before his incursion into Pennsylvania, escorted the Army of Northern Virginia into Pennsylvania and then proceeded to New York. He was incredibly fortuitous in his choice of place and time.
Wow, someone’s got a bit of derangement going on!
I’m a Herman Cain guy, but think Perry would also be a great President. He’s right about Social Security being a Ponzi scheme, and he’s done a good job with Texas.
However, the fact is pretty indisputable - Texas has no right to secede. The Supreme Court has ruled on this.
If pointing out things called facts leads you to call others troll, then you really need to re-evaluate your own position and beliefs. Perry’s right-on on most things, but if he actually claimed that Texas could legally secede - he’s flat out wrong.
The fact that you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I followed Perry threads from the beginning and am very supportive of honest efforts to vet all candidates. Perry included. But I noticed a few posters were obsessively posting the most negative Perry stories they could find. Even when it was politely pointed out that some were untrue, they persisted. They weren't vetting, they were intentionally smearing. I decided to research the posting history of several, and found they were enthusiastic Ron Paul cheerleaders, even openly declaring their intent was to destroy Perry. And yes, also using Palin as a "cover". An occasional mild Palin endorsement, but page after page of detailed defense of Grand Poobah Paul.
Don't believe it, fine. Do your own research. Just don't be surprised if you dig deep enough into the history of a few of the raging Perry anti-fanboys you won't discover some "Paul is just misunderstood" postings.
Some of the Paul supporters here on FR realize they have to fly under the radar in order to continue posting privileges. And since some are looking at the straw poll as validation of their political relevance, they are more aggressive, and stealthy, than ever in their efforts to push the Official Nut of Texas.
James Madison posed that very question when he said, "An inference from the doctrine that a single state has a right to secede at will from the rest, is that the rest would have an equal right to secede from it; in other words, to turn it, against its will, out of its union with them. Such a doctrine would not, till of late, have been palatable anywhere, on nowhere less so than where it is not most contended for."
It's pretty clear that Madison didn't think a state could be expelled against its will, any more than he thought a state could leave on its own accord. I'm not going to second guess him.
I doubt any such polls existed except maybe as a joke.
