Mitt flier: Perry 'wants to kill Social Security' (being distributed in Florida)

The Tampa Tribune posts a flier that the Mitt Romney campaign is distributing in Florida, attacking Rick Perry as "reckless and wrong on social security."
The top of the flier has pictures of a smiling Romney and a surly-looking Perry, and reads: "Two candidates. Only one will protect what's important to you." Continue Reading
"Rick Perry believes social security is a 'failure,'" the flier says, quoting the Texas governor's book. "Rick Perry believes Social Security is unconstitutional ... Rick Perry does not believe Social Security should exist ... How can we trust anyone who wants to kill Social Security?"
Notably not mentioned in the flier: the term "Ponzi scheme," which Perry used to describe Social Security in his book and again in the POLITICO/NBC debate Wednesday. While some Perry critics have fixated on that language, the Romney campaign apparently believes it's not the worst of Perry's problems when it comes to the popular entitlement program.
Except for the photo of Romney, the flier is also almost exactly the kind of attack the Obama campaign could use against Perry in a general election.

Nice how (besides Perrys book Fed Up!) the flier lists Huffington Post and MSNBC Morning Joe as references for the Mitt Romney flier material. It surprises you that someone like Romney would be a Huffpo reader?

.....I expect that the nastiness coming out of his campaign will only increase in the months to come. And then Obama and Biden and Hoffa will begin their battle against Perry and America.

If you can’t trust Romney to tell the truth in a campaign pamphlet, how can you trust him to be president?

I fully expect Romney’s next ad to accuse Perry of wanting to kill puppies.

You mean honest, as in the guy who talked about how much he backed Reagan until the letter came out that he wrote about leaving the Republican party because of Reagan? That doesn’t sound particularly honest or not hypocritical to me.

"But the details of the event are more than unseemly - they may, in fact, be illegal. Massachusetts's animal cruelty laws specifically prohibit anyone from carrying an animal "in or upon a vehicle, or otherwise, in an unnecessarily cruel or inhuman manner or in a way and manner which might endanger the animal carried thereon. "An officer for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a description of the situation saying "it's definitely something I'd want to check out." The officer, Nadia Branca, declined to give a definitive opinion on whether Romney broke the law but did note that it's against state law to have a dog in an open bed of a pick-up truck, and "if the dog was being carried in a way that endangers it, that would be illegal."
"Dog on Roof? What Was It Like for Romney's Pooch? - Scientists Say Dog Likely Experienced Wind-Whipped, Uncomfortable Trip - "Before beginning the drive, Mitt Romney put Seamus, the family's hulking Irish setter, in a dog carrier and attached it to the station wagon's roof rack. e'd built a windshield for the carrier, to make the ride more comfortable for the dog,".. Jordan Kaplan, the owner of Petaholics, a dog walking service in New York City,
and a lifelong dog owner and dog lover, said Romney's actions were uncalled for"
"Romney's dog - This is a distinction Mitt Romney probably could do without, but he is surely the first presidential candidate to be attacked for putting a dog with diarrhea in a carrier and tying it to the top of a station wagon. Romney's defense: Seamus liked it. [like the citizens under Romney's RomneyCARE, etc.?] "
"As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ''Dad!'' he yelled. ''Gross!'' A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who'd been riding on the roof in the wind for hours. As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway."
"Story about dog on car roof comes back to bite Romney - 200 comments from readers complaining of animal cruelty"
Romney's bad behavior Exposed by Seamus
"Romney Loses Nomination Over Dog Abuse? - Romney was traveling that summer with his wife, five sons, and Seamus to his parent's cottage on Lake Huron. But hours into the ride, Seamus apparently suffered diarrhea, which ran down the back window of the car. .David Kravitz wrote on BlueMassGroup, a liberal blog. "It also strikes me as classic Romney: it solves a problem efficiently, in a business-like manner, and with no regard whatsoever for the suffering that the solution may cause."

Last night Hannity had on Luntz with his focus group. If this focus group is any indication of most Republicans, Romney just shot himself in the foot.
That focus group appreciated that Perry spoke the truth. Romney's ad may be beneficial in a general election but he's going to pay for this one. Get the popcorn.

I don't know how to post this PDF graphic to the thread. If someone can and will (sized) help out...Not sure if this will suffice, it's a quick conversion.

I expect that the nastiness coming out of his campaign will only increase in the months to come. He's been campaigning since the last Republican Presidential Primary. Every one on FR knows that a lot of the stuff thrown at Sarah since then was coming from Romney's camp. Guess he was using her for Practice before Perry threw his stetson into the ring.

I agree with you. For months we’ve been inundated with polls stating even Tea Parties don’t want entitlements touched and yet they elect people like Johnson and Rubio who run on it so...which is it?
I think Romney is slime and anyone so desperate to be President they would do this should not be President. However, since Perry would face this from Democrats I think it could be good for him to use this as an opportunity to study how to present it best in a national election.
And if even Republican voters fall for this, well, all these grand ideas of fixing this nation’s problems may have to be re-evaluated. So I’m waiting for the new series of polls to have an idea of their intial reaction and then the next couple of weeks as Perry responds and by October we should have a decent idea of where we sit.

Was the dog’s diarrhea the reason Romney put him on the roof, or the result? Just wondering if he hung a sick pet out to dry, which is contemptible behavior even by Romney standards.

LOL — you beat me too it.
Now for your reward — great YouTube video where Perry tells Spitzer “I know what you’re trying to do and I don’t corner very well.”

This is typical for Romney...he acts just like the rat dems. I am sure Perry has been prepared for this.
