While addressing college students in Richmond, VA, President Obama was surprised to learn that schools use trailers, also called 'modular buildings' or 'modular classrooms.' During his visit Obama said he was approached by an educator who mentioned she teaches in a trailer. Obama did not mention that the teacher had a problem with her situation, but he made it clear this was unacceptable.
"I just -- in the back, I was taking some photos with folks who had helped out to organize this event, and there was a young lady who is a teacher. And she said, I heard your speech last night. I really appreciate it. Im teaching eighth grade English, and I teach in a trailer. We shouldnt have people teaching in trailers. We shouldnt have kids learning in trailers. They should have classrooms with Internet and science labs," President Obama said to the college crowd.
The practice of using trailers is quite common at public schools and more often than not the accommodations in the modular buildings are better than classrooms inside the the main building. These modular buildings are used for several different reasons including for temporary purposes. For example, while the building or a classroom is being renovated the school may opt for a trailer until the improvements are completed. Ironically, renovating classrooms and schools is something Obama is pushing for in his this new stimulus bill.

And this is the same Obama who keeps traveling up to South Bend, Mishawauka, Goshen, etc where they build all sorts of trailers, travel/sleeping vans, campers and so forth and tells them “Hey, it’s all going to be better”.
No sympathy from those of us who have footed the bill for multiple Taj Mahal school buildings.
He has to go.
LOL
This is exactly why they had trailers in my schools. My part of town was a new expanding area, with new neighborhoods, which are exactly the neighborhoods which attract families with small children starting school. The school district built the main school buildings plus added modular buildings for the boom years. After we all graduated high school, the demographic for school age kids plummeted, and they could remove the modulars at the schools. This was just good demographic planning on the school district's part.
I did grade 6 in a portable...loved it.
It is up to the local Taxpayer to decide what type of buildings they wish to use.
dunham shouldn’t have his brother livin’ in a hut.
(Thanks for the memories ;-)
Funny Government Motors ad...completely untruthful. Front wheel drive has less traction when towing, because weight is shifted to the non-drive wheels.
It was obvious that he had not been in a grocery store in decades.
Whenever you here a liberal say that we need to do something for schools, it just code words meaning “Hey Teacher’s Unions, I got your back”.
I went to school in a portable back in the 1950’s. We used to love it. It was like going to camp.
Not just the teachers, but the pipefitters, plumbers, electricians, masons, welders, carpenters, steelworkers etc. etc, that are required for the construction of school houses.
Most, if not all mobile and modular builders would be non-union, if I'm not mistaken.
Here’s the difference between Obama and Clinton. Clinton would start hitting on the female students in the trailer.
Ever look at the schools in Kansas City, that a Federal judge mandated be built. Billions in taxes were levied on the citizen to provide the lates nd greatest technology, which resulted in what? I remember one story that had a limo pick up one kid to get him to the right program.
Lawyers God love em, I sure can’t.
That graphic reminds me of lip-syncing rock-stars. I'm sure kids are smart enough to see the similarity of phony dummy presenters of content. They probably giggled while he spoke to them. "Pssst... he has no brains, he's a dummy tool, he has to cheat and read notes!"
It's only because you typed it that we caught it. Had it been written in typical Dr. writing not a soul on earth besides you could have made out more than half the words in the first place... :)
