>>> There is, of course, the Biblical precedent of Gideon.

Someone made a list of the people to whom Palin has been compared. Gen. Patton and Abraham Lincoln for example. Congratulations on adding Gideon onto the list. It’s getting tough finding new additions since the pond has been so thoroughly fished already.

>>> The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many men.

Great theology for a politician.

Someone made a list of the people to whom Palin has been compared...
That "someone" would be FReeper EveningStar -- and here is a recent version of of his "list, as it was posted in July -- with "Gideon" already on it:
This is an ongoing list of historical, popular, and Biblical people; fictional characters, as well as animals that Sarah Palin (™) has been compared to on FR:

  • The Beatles
  • Daniel Boone
  • Paul Bunyan
  • Johnny Cash
  • Churchill
  • Cincinnatus
  • Sarah Connor
  • Davy Crockett
  • Deborah
  • Jimmy Doolittle
  • Clint Eastwood
  • Queen Esther
  • Nathan Bedford Forrest
  • John Galt
  • Gideon
  • Ulysses S. Grant
  • Wayne Gretsky
  • Nathan Hale
  • EF Hutton
  • Ike
  • Andrew Jackson
  • Stonewall Jackson
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Joan of Arc
  • Joseph (son of Jacob)
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Jeane Kirkpatrick
  • Victor Laszlo (Casablanca)
  • Leonidas I
  • Lincoln
  • MacArthur
  • Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox)
  • Golda Meir
  • Moray Eel
  • Moses
  • Admiral Nimitz
  • Annie Oakley
  • Patton
  • Reagan
  • Howard Roark
  • Teddy Roosevelt
  • Rosie the Riveter
  • Phyllis Schlafly
  • Secretariat
  • Shakespeare
  • William Tecumseh Sherman
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Thatcher
  • William Barret Travis
  • Truman
  • Mark Twain
  • Sun Tzu
  • Sir William Wallace
  • Washington
  • Wonder Woman
  • Sergeant York
  • Zapata
Since I have been responsible for MANY of the entries on this list, let me say that it is NOT (necessarily) a bad thing to use historical analogies to make a point -- in this case, about Governor Palin's strategy with regard to "squishy" vs. "non-squishy" supporters.
What's the use of KNOWING history (and literature) -- if you cannot LEARN from it?
