At Reagan’s House

The news media really don’t get Rick Perry and his appeal to Republicans. The questions designed to undermine him (Social Security, death penalty, creationism, etc.) strengthened him with Republicans. Mainly, they liked what he said and how he said it. Perry’s a natural, like the man whose library served as a backdrop. No question Perry’s problem will be in finding enough swing voters in Purple states to create an Electoral College majority; being deeply Red probably isn’t enough, even in a strong GOP year, and the stereotype of Perry as “Bush on steroids” was proven true.

As usual, Romney turned in an acceptable performance, but he appealed to the head, not the heart. Romney’s nomination depends heavily on Republicans’ coming to the conclusion that Perry cannot beat Obama — and the polls are going to have to show this clearly, month after month. Obama is not cooperating with the Romney “remainder” strategy, since POTUS is sinking steadily.

Michele Bachmann got little time when it mattered, and is proving how deadly is the combination of gravity and inertia. Newt is winning applause but not votes. Jon Huntsman (R., News Media) got caught in a trap laid by his own campaign manager; he’s going nowhere. Paul will keep but not expand his 10 to 15 percent. Santorum and Cain didn’t break out. On to the next two debates — and the long roller-coaster ride before a victor is crowned.

I'm sorry that you don't understand the Gardasil controversy. Do you understand that we are generally healthier when we live a healthy lifestyle rather than living an unhealthy lifestyle and relying on drugs to protect us from the consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle? Do you understand that some people don't trust a vaccine that has been on the market for less than a year? Do you understand that HPV cannot be transmitted as easily as whooping cough? Do you understand that when a disease can be prevented entirely by behavioral choices, parents may prefer that their children make the healthier choices rather than taking a newly approved drug? Do you understand that when a politician subverts the legislative process because he doesn't trust parents to make this kind of decision about one issue, people will wonder what other decisions he will try to take from them?

No, Rick Perry doesn't have to justify anything in order to be in the race. However, if he is going to remain in the lead, he has to justify the good opinion that voters have of him based on what they know. If learning more about him no longer justifies people's support, the public will look elsewhere. He put some ideas out there, but the way that he did so isn't likely to inspire confidence in the public.

Why are Republican presidential candidates debating on left-wing MSNBC with NBC’s Brian Williams and Politico’s John Harris moderating?

That is the question. Conservatives are reduced to squabbling over how well each candidate held up against the liberal bias of the moderators. We are cheated by the current debate process. I refuse to watch any debate that is not on FoxNews.

I learn nothing from these things. A Republican debate must be conducted from the point of view of Republicans.

I wanted to give Newt a big hug.

He knows he isn’t going to get the nomination so he’s using his time well — putting it to good use in defense of the Right, while letting the viewers know the media are biased sobs.

From the link - Amy Kremer’s summary was excellent.

I enjoyed hearing more from each candidate and I think all of them had at least one thing that I liked. Even when the PMSNBC mods tried to goad the candidates to turn on each other, they kept it classy and refocused the attention on 0bama. He was the clear loser here..the contrasts are night and day. I am very hopeful at this point, looking forward to the narrowing of the candidate selection..but we’ve got some very talented people on our side.

that a President Perry is a much more attractive visual than the reality of President Obama in the Oval Office.

I would say include the name of any non democrat candidate now or in the near future running for the office and it becomes a much more attractive visual than Barack Hussein Obama.

It will be SO interesting to hear the questions the candidates get in debates when it is Obama vs. Our candidate. He will gete soft questions, and we will get STUPID questions, trying to make us look bad.... Those were some of the dumbest questions last night.

WE LOVE OUR GOVERNOR in TEXAS!

I thought for many years that cancers are caused by virus. Feline Leukemia is caused by a virus, they get a vaccine against it. When I heard of Gardasil, I thought it would be GREAT to have a vaccine to protect us against a cancer caused by a virus. Kids have to have many vaccines. And you can live a healthy life, and get raped, so the Gardasil would be a good thing in that case. I am hoping that eventually there will be vaccine against ALL cancer.

Texas is a border state, and Austin isn’t all that far from the border.
