PolitiFact picks at the scab of the long-reported story that Rick Perry was Al Gore's campaign chairman, and deems it false:
Of late, there’s a July 16, 2011, reference to Perry chairing the Gore effort in Time magazine, and an Aug. 29, 2011, item in The New Yorker magazine saying Perry "became a Republican after shouldering the thankless task of running Al Gore's 1988 Presidential campaign in Texas."
This week, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, likewise bidding for president, premiered an advertisement calling Perry "Al Gore’s Texas cheerleader."
Cheerleader, maybe.
But interviews with political players in Texas and Tennessee and news articles from 1988 have convinced us that, although Perry endorsed Gore, he was not his Texas chairman.
Ray Sullivan, a spokesman for Perry’s presidential campaign, recently told us by email: "We have no record or recollection of any leadership position" for Perry in Gore’s 1988 campaign.
Asked why Perry did not say as much when a 1998 opponent repeatedly lofted such claims, Sullivan replied: "We did not (have) access to information about the Gore ’88 campaign organization and therefore 10 years later could not definitively say one way or the other."
POLITICO's Bob King emails that in a WHO radio interview in Iowa last month, the host asked about Perry's support for Gore with a lead-in saying: “You were his campaign chairman,” and that Perry’s response began with: “Yes …”
But Perry spokesman Mark Miner replied to King: "Governor Perry was not Al Gore's chair."
It's a line of attack that is smart for the Perry camp to try to shut down, and one that Texas Rep. Ron Paul is using to slam the governor.
Yea.....years later stuff can be hidden and bought off....
ping
Perry still needs to get a grip on illegal immigration.
I think a new frontrunner may come out of the debate....Perry and Ron Paul will spend their time fighting amongst themselves giving someone else a chance for an opening.
Perhaps not the chair, but he did support pro-abortion, pro-gun control, global warming alarmist Gore. (In 1988 Gore was already firmly in all three camps, beginning the change after his election to the Senate in 1984.)
Yeah, let’s not let the facts get in the way...
This just keeps it peculating.
It’s just so tragic when the smear merchants are exposed as frauds. I havn’t decided whether or not they are deserving of pity.
And percolating.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
The Rickrolled vs the Ronulans.
Let the games begin.
BS admit you got taken in by the dumocRATs and Paulettes.
Yeah, and then Palin turned around twenty years later and supported him. What the hell, let’s run ‘em all out of town.
Who CARES...it is NOT IMPORTANT...and those that try to say it is are just a bunch of idiots...
In your wildest dreams.
Wrong Perry may not even acknowledge the Nutjobs presence.
Probably wait for NutRon to make the AG claim, then hit him with the truth. OOPS.
perky pecs? :)
How about stool?
