Reporting from Washington President Obama on Thursday will roll out a jobs package that strives to lift the ailing economy through $300 billion worth of tax credits, school renovation projects, job training for the unemployed and a program to prevent teacher layoffs, according to a person familiar with the administration's plans.
In his speech before a joint session of Congress, Obama also will ask lawmakers to renew the 2% payroll tax cut that was approved in December and to extend jobless benefits, said the person, who requested anonymity to talk more freely about White House internal deliberations.
The administration would not confirm specifically what is in the plan. And details could change as White House advisors fine-tune the package......
Obama is under pressure from his Democratic base to submit a bold package that would put a real dent in the jobless rate and revive his reelection prospects.
To the extent he follows this advice, though, he risks alienating Republicans and even conservative Democrats who want to avoid anything that smacks of another expensive stimulus package.
.......An aide to House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said that the White House had not consulted Boehner in crafting the jobs package.
"Obviously, achieving bipartisan agreement on these and other initiatives requires more than just one side declaring a proposal to be 'bipartisan,'" wrote Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va).

If our craven Congress passes any of this, neither party deserves to win in 2012.
Obammy’s job proposals will be D.O.A. when they get to the Congress.
You think they’ll give this marxist punk another 300 billion to distribute amongst his socialist budds?
obutthead will be missing nancy Jack-In-The Box pelosi
Brilliant! Why didn’t anybody think of this before? Inject 300 Billion into Teaching, Job training for the “Unemployed”, for jobs that aren’t there after they graduate.....And more!
Brilliant I tell you! BWAHAAAHAAHAAhaaahaa!
Okay, I fixed it.
Every Republican should say,if asked by the media, “It was a pretty good campaign speech but I’m still not voting for him.”
If they ALL said this it would drive the Libs nuts.

This proposed package will accomplish exactly nothing. This crap weasel needs a joint session of Congress to announce this?
If we'd just eliminate the minimum wage requirement the private sector would do that for free.
Same old crap that won't work. Tax credits are "targeted" (to friends), "focused" (on vote buying) and temporary, meaning no one can use them to plan.
I think the American people instinctively know that the economy is crying out for systemic, permanent reform. This speech will take Obama's popularity further downward.
Translation: “Before I lose this cushy job, can I get another $300B for my thug friends in the unions, cuz, I’m going need a job in a little bit and they won’t hire me unless I can come across one more time”
Republicans will add some tax cut sweeteners, remove some symbolic spending here or there. There will be a big fight with lots of noise and TV talk heads talking about how important the legislation is to regular people and........ it will pass.
$10T down $4T left to go.
“Reasonable”
and they still got laid off...but mostly the younger newly hired non-tenured ones.
We have come to the point of no return. When Obama gives his speech it will clearly show the spine and backbone of the GOP. It will be the equivalent of the Jews sitting in the front row (clapping for and approving of) the speeches of Hitler. For the same fate will certainly coming for those who love freedom and our heritage...not death but the loss of our freedom and culture.
There will be no doubt in my mind that the Republicans will cheer and clap at every lie thrown at them simply because the GOP is the “go along to get along” party. Always has been and always will be. That’s precisely how we have come to the gates of political hell today.
Watch them during the speech. Body language will tell all, but most importantly, whether they will actually represent the people by not clapping or standing up for what we mistakenly call our President. He is no President at all for he is nothing more than a union organizer, a community organizer, and any other form of slime that incites the dumb and lazy to claim the right to live the same level of life that the hard workers and those who actually improved their lifestyles through ACTUAL individual ACCOMPLISHMENT.
My stomach turns every time I think of our RINOs and what they have done too us by stabbing us in the back each and every time victory comes on the horizon and they COMPROMISE it away.
The upcoming election is our last chance to save our country and I am afraid that the GOP will simply save their own skins and to hell with the little people.

This is what happens when you let a nine year old drive your car.
The number of Teaching Jobs is directly related to the number of children who enroll in a school each fall. When the sum = < or ≠ 1, then no new teachers are needed and some will be let go. Class sizes just don't magically shrink to make it easy on Teacher.
Ergo, it is impossible "to prevent" teacher layoffs. Every year in Suburban School Districts teaching jobs open, stay the same, or CLOSE. And that's the way it is, Barry O'DUmmie.
Disclaimer: Our youngest has a B.S.Ed., is Certified to teach K-9, and is a TA. This year she barely made the 're-hire list' due to LOWER new enrollment numbers at her school - a LOT of Teachers and TAs were let go in June. She's worked two at Suburban Schools and districts close to 'home', at current school now 3 yrs. Never in that cesspool, Chicago
(ps: and the NEA isn't 'all powerful' in the suburbs)
Bamb’s a fast learner.
Give him another 20 years and he’ll discover “Supply Side Economics”.
Sounds exactly like the first stimulus plan. You know, the one that was supposed to create the shovel ready jobs that never materialized. The failed plan he and his GE pal Immelt had a good laugh over.
They did create shovel ready jobs in-Chengdu,China!
