My first thought was, “perhaps this is simply how it’s done.” After all, they were playing ‘Hail to the Chief,’ which, for all I know, informs them to stand at attention. But then I noticed that people seemed to be moving about, and a few were even holding up camera phones and filming the event. It made me wonder if the audience was even comprised entirely of military, which would of course raise further questions as to why there were no unprompted cheers.

I noticed this back in August when I was reviewing the event for another reason. The silent entrance was almost eerie.
When he entered and there was no clapping, someone in the backround on stage said it was OK to cheer.
Pretty sad.
They couldn’t clap. They were to busy giving him the one finger salute.
I wouldn’t read too much into it.

I believe that was Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman, JCOS and butt-sucking political weenie.
I would not be able to clap, regardless. I would not be any where near there in the first place.
And just remember that this was a hand picked group.
