WASHINGTON (AP) — The economy weak and the public seething, President Barack Obama is expected to propose $300 billion in tax cuts and federal spending Thursday night to get Americans working again. Republicans offered Tuesday to compromise with him on jobs — but also assailed his plans in advance of his prime-time speech.

...

According to people familiar with the White House deliberations, two of the biggest measures in the president's proposals for 2012 are expected to be a one-year extension of a payroll tax cut for workers and an extension of expiring jobless benefits. Together those two would total about $170 billion.

The payroll tax cut is simply stealing from the SS fund. (Seniors wake up!!)

And extending unemployment... Households with a 2nd substantial income really love this.

Throwing money at the problem will not fix it. Government needs to get out of the way all together. That’s the problem.

“Jump start.” LOL. That’s the ticket. Another shot of spending will work to jump start the economy into recovery. Why not a $5 trillion jump start? Just give every Dem district $100 million to spend on whatever the local pols want to spend it on? That should work under this theory.

If they make it a whole lot longer it will be better than a lot of pensions.

Just saying.

The well-known answer is to cut taxes and spending. It worked just fine in 1921, the last time it was tried. I hope some conservative candidates pick this up and run with it.
