People should stop calling the site of the September 11 attacks "Ground Zero," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Tuesday, urging Americans to move past a term long linked with the World Trade Center's twin towers destruction.
"We will never forget the devastation of the area that came to be known as ground zero. Never. But the time has come to call those 16 acres what they are: The World Trade Center and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum," Bloomberg said in a speech on the rebuilding of lower Manhattan.
Ground Zero originated as a term to describe the site of a nuclear explosion and later was used to refer to the point of any dramatic or violent event.

Exactlyoso!
How nice of the dhimmy to tell us what time it is. Typical Liberal. Note: to the Bloomer — On 9-11-01 19 Islamic terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in the second ACT OF WAR against that site in New York City /Manhatten. The WTC was “ground Zero for their attack. I don’t care what You or the Muslim Brotherhood that own you say it is now time for.
“I will Never surrender of my own free will— And I will Never Forget
typical dunderhead....
New Yorkers being who they are - this has insured this will Ground Zero forever, and rightly so.
The term is a lot older than 9/11/2001. The most common usage was the point on the ground directly under an airburst nuclear bomb, either in combat or a test explosion. I don't know if it was used for bombing locations previous to that.
Isn't there some restaurant in the Bronx that's serving salt and transfat for Bloomberg to harass?
Bloomberg is German for Turd Blossom.
Sorry a$$hole....it will ALWAYS be Ground Zero to me, and most others.
Hey Bloomberg STFU!
Let’s see,
Backs Ground Zero Mosque,
No clergy at the 9/11 ceremonies,
No first responders,
Now lets rename the place where 3000 souls met their end.
Bloomie needs to STFU
Bloomberg can call it what he wants and the Islamic terrorist will call it what they want.
You can guarantee if these terrorist thugs have their way it will be Ground Zero again.
FUMB..we’ll call it what we want to call it. Kills them trying to re-educate us all.
you are right on the history of the term - but it has escalated since 9-11 and seems to be used more and more for the area that is the epicenter of any number of events.
My point was the Bloomberg was trying to remove a part of the language that is ingrained way above and beyond this area of his city — further demonstrating his endless gall and arrogance.
H L Mencken was right:
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.
NAZI Bloomberg is more fitting!
DAMN STRAIGHT!
Blooming idiot should ask the families of those killed at the WTC if they believe we should stop using “Ground Zero”!
Its GROUND ZERO
The in country beginning of islams war on Civilization and America.
We will NEVER FORGET!
STFU. Ground Zero is the people’s place and they can call it what they will.
Ever heard of the law of primacy Bloomberg? The Indians didn’t like Custer’s Battlefield being named after him either, cause he lost. They got the name changed to the Little Big Horn Battlefield. Guess what everyone still calls it? Custer’s Battlefield. So Ground Zero will be so called evermore.
Listen Bloomy...it was, is and always will be Ground Zero for all of us. You? Not so much but...since it is a free country we will all continue to call it Ground Zero. Stop telling people what to do and what to say. Mind your own business. You do not OWN Ground Zero!!! We will always call it what it is. Ground Zero.
Also, if Donald Trump had been given the opportunity ... he would have rebuilt the Twin Towers and they would have been done LONG AGO!!!!!!
You call it what you want...we’ll call it what it is!!!
