Palin Watch Continues: No Announcement In Iowa Speech
By Robin Abcarian Los Angeles Times September 3, 2011 Reporting from Indianola, Iowa Sarah Palin did not announce a presidential candidacy Saturday in her speech to the Tea Party of America.
Instead, she hit the usual "tea party" high notes about the dangers of a second Obama term and the perilous financial situation the country faces.
But in addition to those familiar themes, she also unleashed a high spirited attack on corporate crony capitalism and the permanent political class.
It was not lost on the crowd of about 2,000 that a certain Texas governor has spent most of his career in office and has been accused of rewarding his financial backers. That man, Rick Perry, is widely considered the current frontrunner for the nomination.
Sounding very much like a candidate, she proposed her own plan for economic recovery, including repealing Obamacare, focusing on energy independence by developing Americas natural resources, and putting an end to the federal corporate income tax. This she said, is how we create millions of high-paying jobs.
To offset the loss of government revenue, she said, she would eliminate corporate welfarethe loopholes and bailouts.
Barack Obama promised to cut the deficit in half. Instead he turned around and tripled it, she said. Barack Obama is adrift, she said at another point. He doesnt make sense.
Who wants to win the future by investing in hare-brained ideas like solar panels and really fast trains? These, she said, are non-starters . . . . All aboard Obamas bullet train to bankruptcy.

Reagan announced in November!
Clinton announced in October!
I ain’t talking about me voting for her or you voting for her
I am talking about attracting new voters
Agree. I keep saying this. Obama has a well oiled machine. In addition, the ACORNS will be back in business as would the SEIU, NEA, NARAL, Planned parenthood, EMILY’s LIST, and unionists of all stripes, and billions dollars of free pro-Obama coverage. Without a solid campaign infrastructure for “rapid response” any campaign that downplays the need for a seasoned campaign staff is toast. National elections is not like running in Alaska.
She was outside...
How do you know she does NOT have a well-oiled machine, ready to jump into action when the time is ripe?
Sarah has many many wealthy backers who are extremely savvy in the political arena.
Expect to be pleasantly surprised (or not—if you are backing the Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee Boys.)
If Perry is half as venal as he has been accused of, then between Herman Cain and Sarah Palin there won’t be anything left of Perry but his hair. I hate seeing random crap thrown at Perry, it is so much the boy who cried wolf, but there are real questions that need to be looked into.
Obama’s machine is a gaggle of crap spewers. Probably their oil is castor oil.
I will be one of the few who say this; If she doesn’t run, then I will write her name in... call me what you want, but anyone else will either continue the degradation of our country... or just slow it down. If That happens, I would rather the blame go where it’s deserved..
Her normal speaking voice--for instance, when she is on FOX--is fine. But when she speaks at these rallies, she raises her voice to be heard and it sounds kind of screechy.
I believe voice training can make a big difference. Think Hillary Clinton. She had the same problem years back.
I think her voice is fine. And I’m glad she DOESN’T sound like Sam Elliot. ;-)
This is true for SEIU, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List; NEA, NYTimes, Hollywood. But your premise is based on an “informed and educated” electorate. This is wrong.
Today people vote on soundbites. “Hope and Change” and 10m bumper stickers did it for Obama.
2012 will be the equivalent of an electoral war. And as anyone knows when you got to way you must have a “command and control” structure and be prepared to dominate the ground game. So call it castor oil, but it greases the machine and in the end that’s what counts.
“Obummer has a voice that people can listen to.. where has that gotten us?”
Wrong question. What has it gotten him?
But they both had a solid core campaign structure in place before they announced.
I don’t know why you included me in your post. I like Palin and would love to see the heads of both liberals and RINOs explode with her nomination. Perry and Romney are both for the birds, as far as I’m concerned.
It has gotten us into a BIG ‘quagmire’ :p
He has been able to do, in 3 years, what the socialists (communists) have been trying to do in the last 6 decades :/
In my best Ed McMahon voice, "YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR!"
Obama is going to have to figure out how to get millions of people who are sick of him, “unsick” by November 2012. That might take more than sound bites. Especially when his supporters threaten to mutiny whenever he tries to do something politically savvy like put a stop to job-stealing environut regulations.
If it must be sound bites, Rick Perry’s “I’m not Obama” is as good as anything :-) (Even though it’s intellectually unsatisfying.)
