This is true for SEIU, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List; NEA, NYTimes, Hollywood. But your premise is based on an “informed and educated” electorate. This is wrong.
Today people vote on soundbites. “Hope and Change” and 10m bumper stickers did it for Obama.
2012 will be the equivalent of an electoral war. And as anyone knows when you got to way you must have a “command and control” structure and be prepared to dominate the ground game. So call it castor oil, but it greases the machine and in the end that’s what counts.
Obama is going to have to figure out how to get millions of people who are sick of him, “unsick” by November 2012. That might take more than sound bites. Especially when his supporters threaten to mutiny whenever he tries to do something politically savvy like put a stop to job-stealing environut regulations.
If it must be sound bites, Rick Perry’s “I’m not Obama” is as good as anything :-) (Even though it’s intellectually unsatisfying.)
