MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.

The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

The battle was mostly over union representation for the dessert grape workers ~

It flowed over to the table wine grape producers, as well.

I'm familiar with the whole sordid affair, mu. I got shot at along the way.

Defending this country from foreign invasion is one of the reasons for the Constituion. Stop pissing on Franklin's grave by misusing one line.
And if imminent domain is appropriate anywhere, it is here. Besides the alternative is not liberty but foreign invasion of said famrs and state and federal prosecution of any farmer defending his property. So stop pulling a property rights arguement here.

When you round up 500 Americans willing to pick crops, send me their names and I'll get them a contract.
When you have an argument, get back to me. A Bracero program or an H1-B and a illegal immigration are not the same thing. Stop treating us like idiots with transparent lies.

{It is a symbol of, “Look at what those dumb Gringos spent $3 Billion on? A Climbing Wall for our exercise! Hahahaha!!!!”}

That us a symbol, but an overflowing emergency room is not. Yep you are certainly correct, the money save by not building could keep those emergency rooms full, except they are closing. There is a legacy for you.

If you don’t believe in fences, leave your doors and windows open. Or stop being a hypocrite.

Noise machines and microwaves would work just fine. No lethal force needed. Find another strawman.

Easy enough just get a list from social services, cut their freebies off and you will have plenty of recruits. Way to hard a concept for a deep thinker like yourself I suppose.

Your door cannot stop all criminals. Therefor keep your doors and windows open at all times.
In the real world the good is better than the non-existed perfect. Unless you don't want the good.

Perry doesn't want to do anyhting. He opposes forcing companies to check id people are illegals before hiring them. He filed an amicus brief against Arizona.

What is your fix, since you thing a cheap fence (300 million vs billions in welfare) is too expensive? I suspect you are open borders shill.

Defending this country from invasion is a legitimate RESPONSIBILITY of the Federal Government. Either you think the founding father were bunch of fascists or you never thought through your argument.

If a candidate can’t figure out that a Country must control its borders then he has nothing to offer his Country but what the rest have.....lies.

Time for a 3rd Party. NOW.

Noise machines and microwaves would work just fine. No lethal force needed. Find another strawman.

It's not a strawman. Not mine, anyway. Read the thread; several posters are talking about land mines, snipers and other lethal techniques. If I answer their point, it's not creating a strawman argument. Are you taking notes? Write this down, you may need it later. I'd hate for you to wander into another conversation not know what a strawman argument is, and then I get blamed for not educating you properly.

Anyway, there's a 100% chance that it would be closer to 2112 than 2012 before the EPA allowed 2000 miles of crowd dispersing electronic warfare equipment running along the border. "Mircowave fence found to annoy endangered Sonoran field mouse, EPA blocks implementation pending study." For decades.

See, if we had the political willpower and the money to build this stuff and to keep it powered, manned and maintained, then why not just use this deep wellspring of political willpower and money to go after the businesses that hire illegals in the first place? No work, no illegals. Not only does it cause the ones on the way to turn back, but it encourages the ones here to leave. No sense for illegals to stay in America if the potential employers risk getting socked with heavy fines or IRS levies.

This Great Wall of Texas thing is a weak sister to punching illegal immigration right in the wallet. You may as well just hang a scarecrow* here and there along the border and hope for the best. You really want to stop illegals AND make them deport themselves, then make Mexico more attractive place to work. Anyone we want to keep, we can issue visas to. Anyone we don't, well, let yourself out the same way you came in.

* A scarecrow is a weaponized strawman used in advanced rhetorical combat.

People should be worried about all the Muslims that the Bush family brought here after Iraq 1 and 2, not to mention the ones the current resident in the hut has given entry to. They don’t have to sneak across the border, they have keys to the State houses.

I disagree. The alternative is much less invasive swath of road (like we see in the pictures) with more border patrol cars, vans, helicopters, planes, drones, the mobile towers we were promised and all filled with dedicated border patrol officers.

Waiting for a debate winner is a little shameful, since the debate winner is likely only a trained lap dog. I am more interested in what they actually propose to do, and does their history show that they will keep their word.

The guy you a pimping all the Palin threads for is not truthful, and neither are you.

Those picking jobs will disappear if the farmers have to pay a living wage, guess what will replace them? The same thing that has replaced the factory worker.

Take a look at the new VW plant, all robotized fewer workers. Most picking jobs can and will be replaced by machines, or we will simply learn to do without their product.

I remember a time that if we didn’t grow it or kill it we did without. Not as hard as you think.
