WASHINGTON, Sept. 2, 2011 A combined Afghan and coalition security force yesterday detained a Taliban leader and an associate during an operation in the Marjah district of Afghanistans Helmand province, military officials reported.
The leader was responsible for threatening to kill Afghan civilians and conducting attacks against Afghan security forces.
In other Afghanistan news yesterday:
-- Combined forces killed six insurgents, detained six others and seized a weapons cache during separate operations across Regional Command East. The cache contained three inert rocket-propelled grenades, two 155 mm casings, improvised explosive device parts and spent small-arms casings.
-- A remotely piloted aircraft crashed in the Giro district of Ghazni province in eastern Afghanistan. Coalition troops recovered the aircraft. No enemy activity was reported in the area at the time of the crash. The incident is under investigation.
-- In the Burkah district of Baghlan province, a combined force detained multiple suspects while targeting an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan facilitator who is responsible for financing insurgent attacks and is directly associated with senior IMU leaders based in Pakistan.
-- A coalition patrol discovered an IED cache in the Gardez district of Paktia province. The cache contained a 70-pound command-wire IED, various IED-making materials and 1,000 pounds of explosives. The explosives are slated for destruction.
Are they keeping their eye out for Mullah Omar?.............
Him and a host of others.
Sandy, one of these days they’re going to run out of “leaders” and your post will say “coalition captures schmoe”.
No it won’t, ... it’ll say Barrack Hussain, Eric Holder, Janet Napalitano, and a raft of others claiming to be Czars. LOL
In a military unit a leader could be a Sargent, a captain, a Colonel or a general. In an irregular unit, leader might be the only rank
Sounds like someone's gonna get in trouble for crashing a UAV.
BTTT
When they find the caches of explosives, it brings lots of joy. Thanks for the post.
