Fox News Poll: 74% Of Republicans Don’t Want Sarah Palin To Run For POTUS

While Sarah Palin continues to stoke the fires and keep people guessing about her Presidential intentions, Republican voters seem to be speaking loud and clear:

All in all, most voters — 74 percent — think Palin should stay on the sidelines in 2012. Just 20 percent think she should run for president.

The groups most likely to support Palin running are white evangelical Christians (30 percent) and Tea Party members (28 percent). Still, majorities of those groups do not think she should run (62 percent and 66 percent respectively). In addition, 72 percent of conservatives, 71 percent of Republicans and 66 percent of independents think Palin should stay out.

Women (77 percent) are a bit more likely than men (71 percent) to say Palin should sit this one out.

Just among women, Republicans (26 percent) are more likely than independents (24 percent) and Democrats (15 percent) to think Palin should run.

Let me be clear about the point I am making, since several of you have misunderstood. Goldwater was painted by LBJ and the media as a dangerous extremist. Some people who would have voted Republican (for Rockefeller or whomever) or who would have stayed home on election day not only voted for LBJ but also in record numbers in Congressional elections for Democrats, especially in House elections, but also in the Senate where there was a net gain of two for the Dems against many entrenched Republicans. That set the stage for the radical legislation enacted in 1965 from which we have never recovered.

As for the 1980 Republican race, Reagan was never seriously challenged by Bush or anyone else. Reagan almost snatched the nomination from Ford in 1976. (Too bad he didn't because then we would have avoided the disastrous Carter presidency.)

Polls are used to shape opinion, not reflect opinion. It’s amazing how conservatives who say “this time we won’t let the media choose our candidate” are still allowing polls generated by the media to influence their choice of a candidate.

Celebrities get swarmed by the masses. We aren't electing a celebrity like Justin Beiber but a leader who will be able to govern, fix relationships with our allies, find solutions for the economy and bring respect back to the Office of the Potus.

That would be Sarah Palin. Who else you got in mind? Rick Perry? At least Palin never wrote Hillary Clinton a love letter, commending her for her efforts to impose socialized health care on America. She never worked for Al Gore either.

Apparently, you are in deep denial. This poll actually reflects the real sentiments of the electorate and the Public.

It shows you what you refuse to believe, so you try to dispel it from all logic. When reality is what it is.

I know it's hard for you to accept, but Perry will win the nomination and represent the Republican ticket in 2012.

Palin will endorse him, support him and campaign for him. The goal is to get this country back on it's feet, not cat fight and sling mud around the table.

I think you are being premature. Palin has NOT endorsed Perry and is speaking this weekend on her own in Iowa and New Hampshire - what does that tell you about her intentions?

It is way too early to settle for second-best. We are still months away from the first primary! RIght now it is time to support the candidate that best support our values. If Sarah Palin gets into the race, I will support her 100% as she fully shares my conservative values and vision for a better America.

Should my candidate not prevail and the Republicans nominate somebody who is "second-best", then I guess I'll reluctantly support that candidate as I did McCain four years ago. But we are still months and months away from that and until then, I'll work hard to help ensure that we do not have to nominate an inferior and flawed candidate such as Rick Perry - who, whether you choose to accept it or not, supported liberals such as Al Gore not too many years ago and who penned a love letter to Hillary Clinton to praise her for her efforts to impose socialized health care on a national level.

Don't forget people, especially the ones who think there is a candidate who is ‘beating Obama’. Obama and company have not even begun to go after the leading candidates. For sure the picture will change when the fun begins. That being said, all of Sarah's baggage is out there and they have nothing on her. Don't know if Sarah will run and don't know if she does run, if she will win, but one thing is certain, all the other viable candidates have lots of baggage.

Good points. People here are still very trusting of the media in general. Heck, most of us still read newspapers, rather than getting all our news from the limited selection on the rolling news channels or from the net.
Some of the reasons I hear bandied about a lot are:

“The BBC is independent” - the BBC is pretty famous for this. The fact that it is run by the government, for the government and funded by a direct tax on every household, seems to evade people’s notice.

“There is a newpaper for every political spectrum, so if you don’t like the Mail’s editorial policy, read the Guardian” - One of the most interesting things in recent years is the rise of “free” papers in the major cities, especially London. Just think about it - 7 million people a DAY reading your opinion and your slant on the current national and international situation at the most vulnerable time - when they are on their way to work and with their minds still fogged by sleep and the sheer discomfort of the public transport system.

We do have some resistance media - Private Eye, which hides serious investigative journalism behind a facade of lampooning politics, is probably the best known in the UK. I think some of each issue’s content is available on thier website - I wouldn’t know, I get my copy delivered!
The Big Issue, which is a news and current events magazine sold by the homeless to get them back into society, also used to have surprisingly good articles, though the quality has dropped recently.
