AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry and Democratic challenger Bill White agree that while plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero have stirred controversy, they don't object to a local decision affirming the Islamic group's right to build it. A New York City planning commission voted this week to clear the way for a planned Islamic community center and mosque near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

I see nothing in Perrys statement about states rights or his preference that the 9/11 mosque be built elsewhere with which I disagree.
It's just a game to most of them. Unfortunately, I really feel like Temper believes what he's saying. It's kindof pitiful.

The locals haven’t relented, but they oppose it stridently. It would be nice to know their possible future president agreed with them, instead of some idiot stick tone deaf politicians.

"Peace-seeking Muslims, pls understand. Ground Zero mosque is UNNECESSARY provocation; it stabs hearts. Pls reject it in the interest of healing," Lou! This is from the Palin tweet YOU linked to. That is worse than what Perry said and do you know, the guy who ran for Governor Palantino (sp?) said he would use every zoning code available to him to stop the Mosque from being built. What's the problem?

Perhaps you like selling other FReepers short, but the timing would never have been better for me. I have been stridently against this mosque from the moment I heard of it, years ago.

Wow, a 13 month old DMN story in which Perry makes a reasonable and consistant 10th amendment argument. Lame.
What, you couldn’t find any Perry bashing propaganda in any gay papers today like you posted this weekend? Maybe you’re not looking hard enough.
To: DRey; buccaneer81
You know what DRey? I’m starting to think Perry was right. Texas SHOULD secede, and then you can elect him “Presidente of Texas” along with all his southern MEHICANO neighbors he loves so much!
To: Tempest
Gardisil! TTC! Amnesty! Open borders! 9/11 Mosque!
Gee, Temp. I think you have finally gotten through to all us rubes out here in the sticks. I'm sure your efforts will be reflected in the latest polls.

Yes Perry shares the same position as Obama. But if he’s such a huge states right advocate why was he for New York’s gay marriage law before he was against it?

RE: You mean like how Perry fip-flopped on gay marriage right?
Apparently you do not understand the difference between what the federal government can do now under the constitution and what it could do with a constitutional amendment.
Get your head out of rectal defilade and take a course in constitutional law.

So, he is a staunch States Rights supporter, and if he says, “I only support States Rights when it is the issues that I believe in.” Don't you think that would be a little hypocritical? I believe in the Republic, and that each State must decide their laws, even when I know how stupid and foolish they are. We will never survive if States believe that they can impose their own wills on all of the other states..Like New York and California..

DRey, having fun playing “Whack-A-Mole” trying to defend all the idiotic positions of Mr. Gardasil?
